Will Congress step in on the NCAA?

I'm not saying I want them to, but last year or earlier this year there were rumblings from Congress about the BCS, and I wouldn't put it past a Senator or Representative from one of the states being left out of the BCS or National Champ Game getting involved because Auburn will be playing Cam.
Probably very doubtful that anything would happen before the BCSNCG, but if not before the BCSNCG, a butthurt leftout Congressman could go after the NCAA afterward. In that case, Auburn won't be affected.
Also, our Federal government is already involved through the FBI, and some Congressmen are in committees that oversee agencies like the FBI.

Congress cant get out of its own way.
Unless they are pushing for playoffs I say
They need to stay out of it

I think congress should probably focus on the economy/lack of jobs/war overseas, rather then college football, imo.

GOD I frickING HOPE NOT! We are at war, the economy is terrible, the National debt is at 11 trillion.
The FBI will find all of the evidence and the case will come out right in the end.

Their decision in the Cameron Newton saga has changed my mind about Federal intervention. I want Congress to ream the NCAA. Don't break the rules unless you are in line for a National Title and Heisman...

For interpreting their rules they made in a manner they deemed fit. You must hate corporations.
Is it arbitrary...absolutly. Uniform, certainly not, but it's the NCAA when have they ever acted the same one day to the next.
Jeramiah Masoli says read the above.

As much as I really would love congress to stay out of it I think it is becoming more and more clear the NCAA needs to be investigated.

Since it makes no sense and would be a terrible idea, it's a real possibility.

I don't have any love for them.

And I have had my fill of this arbitrary enforcement and am sick of the hypocrisy. If Congress wants to take away the NCAA tax exempt status that is fine with me.

The National debt will be paid off as soon as Obama prints another 11 trillion, its that simple. Just give him time

I am sure a few congressmen from Louisiana, Alabama, and Arkansas will crow about it...good way to get re-eleected.

I'm not a big fan of the federal government but I don't see how they could frick it up any worse and Congress can frick up a lot of shite.

Congress needs to figure out how to solve the problems with the country/economy before they worry about college football.

Terrible from a common sense standpoint.
Fantastic from an entertainment potential standpoint.

Every single post in this thread has been completely moronic. This thread is a paradigm of stupidity.
Congress is in the business of making federal laws, but they also have some oversight powers with respect to these federal laws that they promulgate. And when they think they need additional information in order to properly use said oversight powers, they can issue a subpoena.
Congress won't step into this situation because no federal laws -- or, indeed, any laws at all -- have been broken. It is not against the law for Cecil Newton to come to an agreement with Auburn University or Auburn University boosters where he agrees to deliver Cam and he gets money in return. It might be shady or unethical, but it is not illegal.
