Saban calls Meyer a 'great person as well as a great coach' (LINK)

By Don Kausler Jr. -- The Birmingham News
December 26, 2009, 7:41PM

Alabama coach Nick Saban has issued a statement in reaction to today's breaking news that Urban Meyer will step down as Florida's head football coach following the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati because of health concerns.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Urban and his family at this time," Saban said. "He is a first class coach and the success he's had is unmatched in our profession, especially over the last five years at Florida.

"We hope he is able to regain his health and have the opportunity to coach again in the future. Urban Meyer is a great person as well as a great coach, and the game of college football is better with him as a part of it."

The midget will do anything for pr. I mean really, was that "official Saban statement" necessary? Isn't he too busy recruiting and watching films for a statement? Why wasn't Finescum the first to report?

My brother is a state booster who ate lunch with Mullen. Mullen said he had great respect for Meyer as a coach but had never met a man as big an a-hole in his life.

In fact his exact quote was "I can't wait to go up to that a-hole after we win and tell him better luck next year." I was in a box for the State-Florida game and Mullen Damn near pulled it off.

to Saban. To the poster claiming he did it for attention, please. He is undefeated and about to play NCG. Yeah, he really needs a stunt to drum up attention.

Now Kiffin on the other hand.........wonder if Kiff will issue a similar statement.

Do you really have to ask yourself that? Kiffin is a legit dare I say great coach, he has yet to prove it but I have no doubt he will, but a sympathetic man he is not.

Understandable. I would be worried and sad if we didn't really know all the details going on either. People have to put themselves in your fans situation and think how they would feel. Sorry about the ones that were classless. I was just getting ill at people trying to point out like it was all of us. I hope Meyer has a speedy recovery and prayers are with he and his family. He is a great coach and it is sad to see him go. He was good for the SEC.

What a load of bullshite. Everything that comes out of Saban's mouth is a well thought out lie and/or has ulterior motive written all over it. You Bammers will figure this out soon enough. Saban is so glad that Meyer is gone he probably crapped himself when he heard. Don't fool yourselves into thinking that he is actually concerned about anything other than Nick Saban.
