Do any of you think the familiarity that these two have with each other will give one team an advantage in the MNC game, or will the familiarities cancel each other out?

It will definitely help in the Texas game-planning, since Muschamp know all Nick's tendencies. Then there's Applewhite, who spent a year under Saban on the offensive side.

seeing as how Saban taught Muschamp everything he knows= advantage Saban

Don't know. YOu would think or hope that your DC and HC would evolve and adapt their gameplans to the strenghts and weaknesses. So, I am sure they will be tuned in to each other's tendancies, but I would not think it would be a game breaker for either. Although, if there was to be an advantage I might think it would go to Muschamp due to Saban running the entier show and Muschamp focusing soley on the D.

I think they cancel each other out. If anything Saban would have advantage because he's tweaked his D over the years while Muschamp still runs the base 4-3. But it does make me nervous.

Considering they both have a month to watch game film on the other, what could they possibly know that they aren't going to find out anyway?
It will have zero impact on the game.

Thank you Teague. I feel better now.

Yeah but wouldn't coaching with someone for years give you more insight about tendencies and such than just watching a bunch of game film?

No. Unless you're a terrible coach, or les miles, you change your tendencies based on the players you have and the team you're playing.

Yes and no. Different players in different systems. If any advantage at all, it would be Saban. Pretty sure Muschamp developed his own style after a few years on his own as the DC.

This.
They have a month to prepare. Both staffs will know what the backup centers like to have for breakfast by the time kickoff comes around.

Good point. As far as Miles goes, this is perhaps his biggest flaw as a coach. Well, that and his clock management skills.

Very little, Saban's D has evolved alot since Muschamp was a part of it, and likewise with Muschamp's...

Kirby Smart and Muschamp are friends too. I think any advantage would be in knowing how the other thinks when you know someone well. Kirby and Saban vs. Muschamp and Applewhite.
I'd give the advantage to Alabama.

Aren't tendencies a little overrated? I mean, I'm pretty sure Urban Meyer knew Bama's tendencies and it didn't seem to help. Bama threw several new wrinkles at Florida, like starting in the spread. Danielson said on Finebaum yesterday that other than 5 or 6 plays, he never knew whether Bama was going to run or pass. That's pretty telling.
No offense to Brown, but I don't think he's even in the same league as Meyer and Saban.

Didn't Saban change the offense when he brought in McElwain? If so, I don't see how Applewhite has much "insider knowledge."

Sure. I don't think insider knowledge would help with the actual working offense, in concrete terms. They have evolved and changed considerably. I was thinking more in terms of knowing the way someone approaches a game plan, or looks for strengths and weaknesses in an opponent. The ability to get into a coach's head and know how he prepares will have some bearing.
