Serious question/poll re: Bama's claimed NC
His whole argument is that bama should not be claiming ncs that were not awarded by the ap. I just want him to adhere to his own advice and not claim ncs that were not awarded by the ap. Simple really.
agree.....but that would give bama 6

Yeah well others had the authority before the ap.

you do that than AU has 8. I like to go with the AP until the BCS was used.

bcs uses the coaches, so why can't we use the upi-coaches poll?

the UPI was the coaches poll. The coaches is still used today. Seems would be ok to count the UPI NC along with the AP. Not that hard to understand.

It was the standard in 1941, and Alabama did not win it in 1941.
So what was your point again?

11. 1941 is not one I claim.

Of the 12 we acknowledge, 1941 is the only one I consider bogus. I don't complain though, because of 1966.

So national championships weren't given out before the ap was established?
That's correct. If you can find documentary evidence to the contrary, please do so.
For the record, the AP didn't 'give out national championships'. They merely started the first national poll of sportswriters' opinions on the best teams in college football.
Since your manhood appears to be completely dependent upon the entire "Got 12" mantra, it may surprise you that nobody really gave a damn who was the 'best team in college football' back in the early 20th century. It wasn't like something that could be won conclusively on the field, like in major league baseball. In fact it still isn't.

I love those Rose Bowl wins. That put Southern football on the map. All you other teams need to say "Thank you Bama for making my team relevant."

It appears auburn manhood is to attempt to diminish Bama's achievements. I guess when you're second fiddle, you have to do what you can to make the gap look closer than it really is though.

Well when Alabama fans harp on the 12 to 1 gap in claimed national championships, I feel it is only right to show how Auburn has several years that we could claim but don't claim and Alabama has a few years where the claims are.... questionable.

Why does it have to be any more than that? More importantly, why was it no more than that until after Bryant died, when UA starting retroactively claiming those as NCs?
I honestly don't remember how many NCs were reported after Bryant died so I couldn't tell you. All I know is we put southern football on the map with our Rose bowl victories (doing something other teams from the south couldn't do which was consistently beat the northern teams) and opposing fans don't like it.
All of Bama's past accomplishments are great and apart of football history and I'm very proud of the teams that took the field back then but at the same time, I'm looking towards our bright future.

I edited my post. The ap was only around for 5 years at that point and had no more significance than any other poll / publications.

And for the 100th time on this board:
quote:
"Alabama has been awarded a NC more times than we acknowledge. If we acknowledged all the one we have been awarded, we'd have like 20 or 21"...

except yall don't say they're questionable. Yall make youtube vids and blogs and post them over and over attempting to totally discredit them. Claim what yall want. I don't care. Keep the 83 one, the peoples champ.. even get yerself a share of the TatorTot championship. It's no sweat here.

I'm pretty sure the number of years that Alabama has been awarded the national title an accredited poll is 16. That is, if wikipedia has correct information.

Generalizations won't serve you well. I merely dispute claimed national titles that have questionable basis, and it is not out of line to do that.
