Seriously, why would Richt hire Tuberville as a DC?

He was a DC all of two seasons: 1993 in Miami, and 1994 at TAMU. Not to mention that he hasn't been anything but an HC ever since.
Richt needs to make a solid hire after the Martinez debacle. Is he stupid enough to put his job on the line with a guy whose last relevant experience was in the Southwest Conference?

I can't imagine any serious interest. It was just a stupid list the AJC put together.

Tubbs wouldn't do it anyway, it's below his standards...

because his recrooting prowess would pay huge dividends

Tubbs always had a good defense at AU. He is a defensive coach.

What he did as HC was slow down the offense and play ball control, which helped his defense look good on the stat sheets.
AU had some good defenses, alright, but Tubs wasn't coaching them. I don't think he's up to the challenge of putting in a scheme and gameplanning for an entire season at a major program like UGa.

Tubs has stated over and over that he will not be a cordinator that he doesn't have the energy to be an on the field coach. Don Dunn would be a great hire but very doubtful he'd go there with Tubs getting a job this fall.

Tubbs is waiting to see what happens after next year at LSU. If Miles fails to deliver next year and is fired, he would love to have that job. Can't blame him! Hell, he's got plenty of $ to sit back and see what develops.

Tuberville is a control freak, he has ran a major college football program for a decade. You think he will get paid enough to coach there anyways?

I for one don't think we'll be able to get a high profile DC. All the names being thrown around on the Rivals, Scout & blog sites are just X-mas wishes. I'm thinkin' we wind up with somebody like Tommy Spangler at La. Tech or Travis Jones with the Saints (a NFL position coach with UGA & College ties) or more than likely someone I've never heard of...

I would say that we are able to get a high profile DC because we CAN afford it. But just because we can afford to do it doesn't mean that we should.
I would much prefer Richt do the job properly, search for and find the RIGHT candidate. I have no idea who that is, honestly.

Part of the reason his name has stayed alive in this matter I have heard is that he is still to be paid from Auburn for the next two years, UNLESS he takes a head coaching job before that period ends. If he takes an assistant job, he is basically double dipping.
Word is also going around that Richt is thinking he will coach another 4 or 5 years and call it quits, and if Tubbs does a good job and hangs around, he would be a shoo in for the job.
All that said, I think there is a very very very small chance it happens.

Wasn't he the DC at Miami in the early 90s?

Sorry Hooligan, that's not how it works. Tubbs gets paid his $6 Million over three years (starting last year) and anything he gets paid from someone else doesn't have to be paid by Auburn. So if he takes a job at UGA he is coaching for money that he would already make by doing nothing. The only way he takes a job is as a HC. No chance he works for anyone.

Fair enough, I dont know the details of it, just repeating what was told to me. I didnt think it had any shot of happening so didnt research it at all.
