Is this common? Every time I have flown for business, my first meeting was not until the following day.
Its about 30% for me. Just depends on the time of day for the meetings and how much time I want to spend in a given city. I am flying tomorrow and have my first obligation at 530p so I will be in nicer gear than I would be if I wouldnt run into anyone until the following day (then its definitely sneaks and jeans, etc).

Woody would have likely moved on the second he knew that a huge part of his job was managing an open transfer portal, the ego's of boosters that essentially bought his starting QB during recruiting, the fact that every team in the Big 10 was going to get big money from a TV contract, and thus, be in play for every player he was thinking of recruiting, etc. Hell, having to be interviewed by Holly Rowe walking off the field would have been a shock. He, like us, would have longed for the days of Jill Arrington.
Unless....someone offered him a lot of money to put up with all that crap. Well, the money flowed, so job security was the next domino to fall.
I hate most of the evolution (I think NIL is fine or the portal is fine, but not both in conjunction) today, but lets not act like they had the problems or the resources back then, because if they did, the second Michigan State hires that day's Mel Tucker....boom goes the dynamite. Taking us back to that timeframe means we are all huddled around a radio 70% of the time and reading box scores in the morning. I prefer this era for the access it gives us, even if it costs folks a lot of money to get rid of a coach. However....with the portal and NIL together, a lot of that will end soon. This isnt becoming the NFL. The NFL has very structured contracts tying a player to a team.

When you get out of your 20s, you dont "need" nearly as many amenities.
Need and prefer are two different things. I spent my entire childhood on a dirt road just outside of a town of less than 2k people in SE GA. I created my own adventure you mentioned in another post daily. I now live in a burb north of Atlanta. Barring some major life emergency, there is no chance I would live in either downtown Atlanta or my hometown again. If I need a gallon of milk, I have three grocery stores within two miles of my house and if a particular day is a sh*t show, I can pop open an app and have dinner waiting on my doorstep in 20 minutes. I dont deal with the major traffic, etc for those perks either. My kids have a ton of activities to choose from that still dont exist to this day in my hometown. While I was also still single, the increased options and anonymity was a boon as I could go out and not worry about a soul discussing me in church on Sunday.
Do I "need" all that? No. Are my kids lazier than I was? Highly possible, but I also didnt have the options that they did. Do I prefer having those options and spending the higher salary I get due to location on a higher cost of living to get them? Yes sir I do. To each their own, but I consider the benefits of convenience and amenities far less tethering than not having them.
re: Standing in line to board a flight
Posted by Hooligan33 on 10/16/25 at 9:47 pm to DestrehanTiger
For business travelers, checked bags are the bane of our existence. Unless it significantly reduced boarding time, no chance in hell I would be in favor of standing at baggage claim for 20+ minutes waiting. I have damn near needed a shoe horn and Crisco to get clothes packed in a carry on vs moving to the bigger suitcase just to avoid that crap.
That certainly wont apply to all, but for the ones in the airport multiple times a month for only a night or three of travel, to hell with checking a bag that would only move my wait from sitting in my seat while the plane boards to staring at the conveyor belt trying to determine if a bag tag is mine when I could be in an uber already.

I am a 50 year old white dude from southeast GA and Still Fly and several others is on every playlist I have created in the last 20+ years. No Limit was huge, but burned out fast.

If I was a die hard Eagles fan, I would focus on their game of the weekend and want to be in the stadium or somewhere with like minded people if not in my house. Philly is a top tier sports town.
If I am not an Eagles fan and wanted to get together with my buddies to watch as much football as possible in the best venue(s), there is a 0% chance we are rallying in Philly. We are going to Vegas. Maybe Vegas is more of a sports consumption town than sports town.

I bought my lifetime subscription around 2007 as well. The few times I have switched trucks since then have been fun when the rep tries to tell me that they dont honor it any longer. After an escalation or two, I'm back in business.
re: Funniest One-liner Your HS Coach Ever Said To You
Posted by Hooligan33 on 8/12/25 at 5:12 pm to morganwadefan
HS Basketball coach, we were playing in a Xmas tournament in a small gym in the middle of the day, so there were not that many people there. Our center had a guy muscle him out of the way for a few rebounds. Timeout.
Coach: "YOU ARE THE BIGGEST PUSSY I HAVE EVER SEEN, YOU HAVE A GOD DAMN YELLOW STREAK THIS DAMN WIDE RUNNING DOWN YOUR BACK." (as he held his hands about a foot apart).
The words echo'd through that place like the Grand Canyon. The few parents in the stands all covered their faces. That same coach was also my OC for football and constantly was dropping one liners. Good times.

I seem to recall this guy, had a flat top and a thick NYC accent. Might have played ball at St. Johns. He's not Steph but Chris Mullin could flat out shoot it.
re: How many times do you stop on a 5 hour drive?
Posted by Hooligan33 on 6/6/25 at 8:17 am to Odysseus32
My goal for any drive, regardless of duration, is the least amount of stops possible. Once I crank up the car, the plan is to get from point A to point B as efficiently as I can, unless it is a drive specifically taken to see things (like vacationing in California and taking a drive up the PCH, etc).
So, for just me: my hope would be none for 5 hours. If with family, my hope is none but one would be fine.

She sure did, but I think she gets a pass on the cheating thing. Bro one died, bro two (Pitt) left for years and told her to move on, then Bro three stepped in. Why she didnt just move back home as opposed to hanging out with Anthony Hopkins in the middle of nowhere was curious.

re: Theory on why the NBA is so trash these days

There are a ton of reasons but I think the overall uniformity of the game has made it boring. Every team essentially wants a PG that can score, a rim running center that is passable on pick and roll switches, then 3 guys of varying heights that can shoot 3s and be decent on defense. You will always have players that are exceptionally gifted that rise above that, but that is the blueprint to start with. It is a more skilled game, but it is the same thing night in and out.
Guys like Oakley and Mahorn would never sniff the court today. From an aesthetic standpoint, that is an upgrade to most. From an interesting standpoint, that is a massive downgrade. That type of basketball creates intrigue. In the past, when a team was not as good as others, they would try varying styles to compete (Doug Moe's Nuggets, Bomb Squad era Knicks, Bad Boys who obviously finally triumphed, etc). That just doesnt exist today.
There are outliers, but 90% of games are the same every night, rinse/repeat, with the hope that a superstar or particular matchup makes it more intriguing than others. And I say this as someone who loves basketball but has found it difficult to watch it it regularly during the regular season.

i am going to exclude anything I would have chosen to listen to. It would be some song that I would absolutely change but cant due to being in a store or at a kids game with music playing, etc.
From today: "I've got my mind set on you" by George Harrison. I do not like this song. The soccer facility my daughter was playing at had it on. I have hummed it at least two dozen times and cant wait for the jukebox in my brain to find a new go to.
