The future of the SEC...

I was seating here thinking about the future of our wonderful conference. And began to wondering which teams are going to be on top and which teams are going to to be on the bottom. I will honestly say, that I feel that Arkansas and Tenn will be one of the elite teams in the SEC in the near future. I feel that thr Gators will still be the team to beat in the east and the west will be very hard to win because most of the teams will be even. So what do you think....

I think there is no way to predict it. None whatsoever. All it takes is a coach to leave, a booster to funnel money to a recruit, or a plane crash wiping out an entire team, and your back to square 1.

I think that the conference is going to get even more insanely competitive in the next decade, and that Vanderbilt and Kentucky are going to have a hard time keeping up with everyone else.

In a parallel universe, Kentucky runs rough shot over all SEC football foes, and wins the NC so often it's called the Brooks Trophy.
Sorry, had to do it.

With TV dictating,I think there will be major changes in the conference with Texas,FSU and others replacing those from smaller markets,
Since Arky and Tn produce so few players, odds are against both recruiting enough out of state talent to sustain both at a high level. If OU continues to do well or moves to SEC then Hogs are at a huge disadvantage.

I think LSU will end up transferring to the Big 12.

Watching the Arkansas/Georgia game made me think the SEC was turning into the Big XII South but I don't think either of those teams will score that many points again this year in the conference.
Bama, Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, South Carolina and hopefully LSU are all pretty serious about playing defense. I am old school and still think most championship teams are going to be great defensive teams.
Sure you have to put points up but you have to keep the other team out of the end zone to win. Penetrating into an offense's back field to stop the run and put pressure on the quarterback is the key to stopping most "high powered" offenses. Their isn't an offense out there that a really good defense can't stop.
Recruiting good defensive players is the key to SEC Championships and thus the key to BCS Championship.
Speed on defense and especially speed on the defensive line is the key to the SEC's recent dominance.
Teams that put too much focus on offense will not win championships in today's college football world.

I agree with this.

Here is my guess for the next 5 years. I put the teams in order of success as well.
Tier 1: Florida and Alabama
Tier 2: LSU, Auburn, Georgia
Tier 3: Arkansas, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Mississippi State
Tier 4: Kentucky and Vanderbilt
I also think that there will be a big drop-off between Tier 2 and Tier 3.

Define near. 2,4,6 years. The future is a long time and the near future is a little vague.

I seen Central Ark. play on tv a few weeks ago. They have a nice arse stadium and a pretty good fanbase (place looked sold out) to be a small school.

Thanks. We have a student enrollment of about 12,000. Been averaging 10,300 at the first two home games. Of course gun season hasn't kicked in yet.

Why can LSU not get back in the top tier? I think that LSU, Alabama, and Florida will be battling for the top of the SEC every year. I do think that Alabama and Florida have a 1up on us because of the RP situation, but I think we will be back in it in at least 2 years if not this year.
I think Auburn and Georgia are in tier 2 with Arkansas or Ole Miss possibly able to break into it

That's good. I believe the team they were playin was Sam Houston St. Not sure. You would obviously know more than me. But like I said, I was surprised by the fan support. It's good for the team and you know the players have to love it.
