Apologies if Germans, but this is a strange story that broke over the weekend. Ty Simpson has drawn the ire of Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines after appearing on a podcast hosted by Caleb Downs. While speaking to his ex-Tide teammate, Downs brought up Alabama's 38-3 loss to the Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl. Simpson responded with the following:

quote:

"From my point of view, I was like, they don't do much," he said. "They do the same thing every down. So when I got the ball, I knew exactly what was going to happen. They just didn't mess up, bro. They were in the exact same spot they were supposed to be. They were so well-coached..."

He then went on to say how in the SEC, teams would try to confuse him with unorthodox looks but pretty much insinuated that Indiana did nothing of the sort. They just stayed in their base defense, shut down the run, and didn't allow Alabama to do anything through the air. Enter Bryant Haines who apparently took issue with Ty Simpson's words on X:

quote:

Adorable. We also, saw everything they were doing, on every single snap… It’s just that we exploited those cues. And didn’t get frozen and crushed by them.

When Alabama fans rushed to Simpson's defense, pointing out to Haines that he was paying his defense a pretty nice compliment, Indiana's DC did not stand down:

quote:

"That's all it took to break your entire fanbase?" Haines wrote. "Wow.. maybe I should've just said 'Boo'. No apologies, no compliments. Grow up folks. He had a bad take and I said the painful truth. Bounce back better."

Not gonna lie, this so-called "feel good" story surrounding the Hoosiers is getting kind of old. They don't even respond well to compliments.

Regardless of how Simpson meant this to be received, I don't know how great of a statement this is tbh. So, you know where they were going to be, they were consistent on being where you thought they were going to be, and you couldn't do anything with that? If needing them mess up was what was required for you to have done something, yikes.

This entire exchange has been bizarre.

Simpson was complementing them on being well coached and somehow the Indiana coaches and fans took it as an insult.

Indiana kicked Alabama’s arse and I get it, they went 16-0 and won it all. They earned it. But reading how they’ve handled success and their insecurities have me rooting hard against them going forward.

Imagine a coaching staff getting mad at someone saying how well coached a team was.

I think they are going out of their way to be the "disrespected" little guy a little too much.

They can't act like they've been there, because they haven't.

Their previously elite basketball team has sucked for the greater part of two decades.

Newer Indiana fans have literally no idea how to handle winning, and it shows, which is sad because "America's team" is slowly just making idiots out of themselves.

I have a weird feeling they're going to end up as a historical footnote like 1990 Colorado.

Their team was also made up of a bunch of 24 years old.

Indiana was accused of hacking some cloud-based practice video service during the season, because it often seemed like their defense knew what plays were coming.

His bizarre, out of place reaction makes me wonder if they actually did.

Weren't they the team that was older than the Packers?

I find it hard to believe that a team in the same conference as Michigan would cheat.

Oh it was, just mean I don't know how good of an idea it is for a potential draft prospect to admit he knew exactly where every defender was going to be and still couldn't move the ball .

From the amount of bama in here basically talking about their feels, id say the answer is unequivocally yes.

Ty Simpson is a giant tool. Remember, they are the best offense in the country according to him.

I think the whole thing is silly but I will say I find it off putting for a grown man and a coach nonetheless to get into a Twitter war with players and fans. Short of defending your integrity as a coach or as a man or defending your program, coaches should keep their mouth shut and focus on their players. It’s just a bad look on his part.

Yeah the coach shouldn't have said anything but he's saying what we are all thinking: This kid needs to stfu. He's always putting his foot in his mouth and slighting the teams who beat him, whether intentional or not. He's trying to hard to talk like a coach and he just comes off as a douchebag rather than being humble which im sure is his intention.
