The SEC's two premier sports programs appreciate

your support tonight.
Alabama is the pater familias of the SEC, and to a large degree, the entire college athletic world, far as football is concerned. For the SEC, Tennessee and its football program are the clear second. Given the more than admirable record in basketball and baseball by the two, it is clear that Alabama and Tennessee are the two Founding Fathers of the SEC. As such, we expect and appreciate your unadulaterated support tonight as we battle for the SEC, your fatherland.

Yikes. If those two are the premier programs in the SEC, we’ve slipped further than we knew. Luckily both has-been programs are mid to average SEC programs. There is one current premier athletics program and it’s just getting started. If you’re resistant to change (aka Old) you’re going to have to learn to deal with it

2 Founding Fathers of the SEC
Vanderbilt as the founder of it all started it there. In the early days of college football, they owned the SEC. Prior to World Wars and the GI Bill, the private schools dominated college football, not public ones.
Kentucky as they played the first football games well before any of the Charter SEC schools. The first Commissioner of the SEC was also the President of The University of Kentucky.
