Would Ole Miss and State fans be satisfied with the following arrangement:
Ole Miss becomes the sole football program in the state.
Miss state becomes the sole basketball program in state.
Both schools keep baseball and any other sports they choose to keep.
Ole Miss uses their arena for concerts and events. State uses Davis Wade for concerts and tractor pulls.
Ole Miss poured $10M into basketball to go 12-20 and State spent more than that to go 5-7 in football.
Ole Miss would’ve won a natty with that $10M going towards football this year.
And State would be making a tourney run with 3-4 more NBA caliber players.

Ole Miss had the best football team in the SEC in 2025

Zero legitimate football nattys in the history of the state of Mississippi.

I'm sure it's nice to be in a state with only one real competitor.

In a way it looks like its trending that direction.

Notre Dame wasn’t in the playoff but would’ve won the natty with another 10M in NIL.
This isn’t a situation unique to Ole Miss.

hell they'd have probably won a natty if they could have kept Kiffin for the post season

Cause spending $10M on defense to fill in the gaps we had especially in the back 7 with elite NFL caliber talent would have made ole miss substantially better this season.

Beat Georgia in a neutral site
I’m certain if Mississippi was allowed to play Alabama last year (it’s insane they weren’t on the schedule), Ole Miss would’ve won the SEC
The conference is just too big now.
Kick Texas, OU out, and bring back divisions!

Recent history makes it easier for OM fans to dunk on State football. OM has clearly been the superior program in the 2020’s. But I think some of that has been a perfect storm of OM hiring the right coach at the right time while State has had a combination of horrible fortune with Leach’s passing and then flat out bad hires other than Leach in the 9 years since Mullen left. I am curious to see how that progresses over the next few years, with Golding taking over for Kiffin and also State very possibly needing to make another coaching change after this year. Maybe they’ll finally hire someone who knows a thing or two about being a HC, this time.
I think basketball is always going to be an uphill battle for both schools. I think baseball is so big at both schools that it hurts support for hoops. I’ve literally seen instances at both schools of fans skipping late season SEC basketball home games because the baseball team has a game against UT Martin when it’s 40 degrees outside and they’d rather go to that.

Do you think the problem is Lebby or is the problem deeper than that? From the outside looking in, it seems that Lebby has improved year on year but has also had to scratch and claw his way to get support from the administration. Like I said, that's what it appears to be from the outside but would like to hear more from MSU fans on where they place the most blame for where the program is now.
