He’s definitely a winner but I’m not sure he is a fit

You have something against winning Corch? These boys aren’t playing with any intensity

Losing SEC record, yes… you kill the momentum of the program and it’ll be near impossible to bring it back again

With nil it’s def different. If the boosters will throw money his way, then he might be ok. I’d still give him another year unless we can get someone huge if he shows he can bring the players in. WW would def be one of the ones I would like to make say no.

If we don't have money for a big (time-player) how we gonna entice a big time coach?

The level of lunacy is appropriate to our level of falloff, but woefully unreasonable in the fix. You don't get rid of a one year coach unless you want to also Harsinize the basketball program. You remember why we got Hugh? It wasn't because he was the best they could find at the time, but because he was the best who would seriously reply.

I am more worried about comparing this basketball team to the softball team after Myers retired than worrying about Harsin or optics. We want good basketball to continue. Good basketball is not proven cyclically freguent for Auburn.

Like any program when the students stop showing up for games is when they will replace him. Bruce did his kid no favors by the way with the crappy team he left him with. It’s why he left when he did but secured him a nice financial future for his family.

- He lost to Pearl like 75 days ago

- Auburn won't pull high end HC candidates until/unless we show sustainability without BP

- The best candidates that are feasible would be turned off if we canned SP after one year

- We don't have the financial commitment to do whatever it takes to secure some guy who otherwise wouldn't come to AU

- It's very, very questionable that Auburn is more attractive than NC State.

Steven Pearl will not get fired this season barring scandal

Agreed that he likely wouldn't leave NC State for AU anyways

I'm not happy with the decline of AUMBB either.

That said, I think the most realistic "good" scenario is that SP makes it 3-4 years here with a couple of tournament appearances, even if none of those teams are particularly impressive. Holding serve on Auburn's relevance, if you will. I'd love him to thrive and take us to new heights, but I'm trying to keep things modest. I think SP is probably good enough to recruit and coach tournament quality teams, especially as he continues to adjust.

Things will naturally move away from BP into whatever SP's philosophy is, and if Auburn is still relevant in the conference (if a little diminished) we can very viably sell good candidates on taking this thing into the future with their approach rather than a Pearl legacy and they won't be following up the guy who built the program. We'll also limit any fallout with Bruce. And we'd have another handful of years to point at Auburn being at least a factor in meaningful CBB.

Candidly, I care more about Auburn being relevant in basketball in the aggregate for the next 2 decades than I do about any particular benchmark. I want my kids to enjoy having Auburn basketball as a "thing."

If for no other reason that seeing what pisses him off this year.
