Does it seem random that Florida has had this excellent basketball program since 2000?

I guess you just chalk it up to excellent coaching hires. I mean the success they have is what you would expect from Kentucky. Maybe with the changing era and more randoms could pop up but still Florida is right there coming off a championship. They really don’t get enough credit for roughly the 25 year run they have had. I’m sure they a few bad years here and there but not many. They have what 3 national titles and lost another? Pretty impressive. And who is their biggest stud they have put in the league? Noah, Horford, Mike miller? A bunch of role players. I’m sure im missing an obvious star.

We also had an undefeated SEC Conference Schedule and Tournament with a Final Four trip in 2014.

Simple demographics. The state has absolutely exploded in population growth.

We became a respectable (well, as respectable as one can be whilst also getting ncaa sanctions) under Norm Sloan in the late 80s. Lon Kruger took us to our first Final four in 94 but other than that his tenure was not great.
We don't talk about anything before that.

Jealous?

Not sure it’s random given the overall strength of the athletic department since the 90s and the demographic changes in the state, but will say it’s still not fully appreciated. The transformation of Gator basketball in the last 30 years has been pretty unbelievable.

You are discrediting Lon Kruger. He was a really good college coach.

100%. I was totally on the fence about Golden after year 1. We had a good squad, a senior squad, but to take that team to a title required a lot of coaching skill.
Golden pulled it off.
He's got a lot of Donovan vibe about him. Wish our UAA was as good at finding football coaches. Mike White sucked but he wasn't the Billy Napier of basketball.

Yeah, very sad news. The man has been a staple in Gainesville for decades, even after BD went to the NBA. Much loved guy in the basketball world.

UF should always be one of the top programs in the 3 major sports with the way they are positioned.

Billy got the ball rolling but it's really just good hiring
basketball programs can rise and fall based on who's in charge because the turnover is so quick even before transfer portal. Since 2000 they have the most successful head coach in that time frame and a guy who built a championship program in 3 seasons
it's all about hiring and they've hit blackjack twice

Wallace Wade was the Alabama coach that took them to the Rose Bowl in the 20s
I chose this nickname, god, like 15 years ago?

Its kind of wild seeing the contrast between their Basketball and Football programs in this regard, and how the admin got one so right, and the other so wrong following hall of fame coaches. Urban Meyer wigging out on them really took things way off course.

They've been really good in baseball too despite the lack of fan support which I will never understand.
