LSU’s report reads similarly. Title IX and the need to fund women’s athletics on a comparative level as men’s is the WORST financial business decision in history.
They literally cost millions of dollars with NEGATIVE RETURNS

Oh yeah, but those other sports definitely deserve to be paid as “employees” of the school just because Football brings in millions.
Braindead idiots think that because football is successful that all college athletes deserve a living wage. Hell, they’re lucky to even have scholarships.

ESPN still tries to gaslight us into thinking people give a shite about women’s basketball
Men’s Golf has 1.2 million more in revenue than women’s basketball

Kinda shocked baseball is that low.
I figure schools like LSU, Arkansas, etc actually make money on their baseball programs

Quick math is Alabama loses $25 million on women's sports.
The WNBA is likely not playing this season. Its very possible that they will never play again.

I’ve definitely noticed a huge effort to promote women’s sports, not just at ESPN but also at the schools. Like most woke DEI initiatives, it didn’t work and cost a ton of money.

Yeah I knew Arkansas did. I’m surprised it sucks more money than a lot of Women’s sports at Alabama though

we used to make money, but with how much you have to pay coaches now, we're several hundred grand in the red now. The baseball program does bring in a lot of revenue, though. The travel is what kills baseball. In the last fiscal year, baseball was second to only football in travel expenses at 2.1 million. But our baseball team was only a few million less in total revenue than mens basketball and had 4x greater revenues than womens basketball. Womens basketball is actually the biggest loser in the department. They operated at a loss of almost 8 million last year, and that's with them actually being a good program. Overall, the department had a surplus right in the ballpark of Alabama at over $30 million with football having a net surplus of $64 million

Interesting…..if LSU isn’t making money in baseball no one probably is.

The only thing that chart says to me is football is the only sport that matters to athletic departments.

I think Tennessee actually made a profit last year iirc, but even when we did operate in the black in was a couple/few hundred grand. But once good coaches started making/demanding legit wages, that kind of went out the window. Skip Bertman never made more than a few hundred grand a year. Jay Johnson made like 1.7 million last year and then got a raise to 3 million after winning another CWS title. We sell out every game at one of the biggest stadiums in the country. It's just an expensive sport with how much travel is involved and not having the TV deals football and basketball have to offset the costs.

well yeah no shite
football has always funded the rest of the AD (and to an additional extent, the university at large with their surpluses). This is nothing new

How does Men's Golf earn almost $2 million?
They aren't on TV that often (softball and women's basketball are on TV much more).
I assume that they include donations? So they may include a $1 million donation for naming rights on a golf facility?
I doubt it's all from merch, either.

I would not have guessed that Men's golf was that close to Baseball in revenue.
I also would not have guessed that women's golf would be the highest earner in women's sports. I would have guessed softball or women's basketball probably.

All this tells me is that more schools need to promote college tennis. Could actually be a break-even sport because of low expenses

Where does the revenue from golf (men’s and women’s) come from? It is basically a non spectator sport with no Ad revenue either. No gate, no concessions, no ad revenue. Maybe brand sponsorship for wearing their brand? Donations specifically to the golf program?
Just don’t see how they out revenue even gymnastics.

Yikes. Swimming and Diving kids at every school better be graduating at a 100% rate and thanking every athletic department employee they come across.

Some of these teams need to start taking Greyhound.

They do some sneaky shite on their website during basketball season by putting headlines about games but not mentioning that it is women's. They want casual followers to see a headline like "Duke and UNC have overtime thriller" and you find out it is the women's teams when you click on it. They do it to create the illusion of interest in women's sports.
