Bruce set his kid up for failure by stalling to make sure his kid got the job

Perhaps had Pearl cheated and brought in a professional, he’d have a better record.

Oats would be 4-6 had he not pulled that stunt.

Auburn and Alabama played each other to within 4 points despite Alabama cheating.

Auburn and Alabama have 9 common opponents in the season, and they have the same record against the group at 3-6… this despite Bama again cheating in 4 of those 9 games by playing a professional.

Congrats on cheating just to basically pull even with Auburn in a year that Auburn has a first year coach.

So Auburn doesn't have a Euro pro on the roster?

The good news for Auburn is that they can distract themselves from how bad they are now by constantly complaining about Alabama.

1. We don’t shoot the ball very well for long stretches.
2. We don’t defend very well for long stretches.
3. We don’t have a true PG.

I like the SWA/Jovic/Freeman nucleus, but we will need to hit the portal hard and find a PG, some bigs who love defense, and more.

I've said this all along. But I also didn't want Steven.

Seeing the career progression from someone like Vandy's new HC is enviable and dont know why a program with two fresh final fours cannot capitalize but then again egos carry weight

For what Bruce did for Auburn basketball, we absolutely owed it to him to give his son a chance. And Steven should get 3 seasons to see what he can do.

We returned just one kid that played significant minutes last season, and yet this team has wins over Florida, Arkansas, St John’s, and NC State. This roster is not very good, yet we’re on track to make the Tournament. All these people calling for Steven’s scalp are idiots.

Rick Barnes missed the Tournament in his first two seasons at Tennessee… and was on track to miss it again in Year 5 before Covid bailed him out.

Oats also had a very bad first season in which he was on track to miss the Tournament before Covid canceled it.

Todd Golden missed the Tournament in his first season at Florida.

Bruce obviously took some time to build up Auburn, missing the Tournament his first three seasons. But people forget despite making the Tournament in Years 4, 5, and 6… Year 7 was a disaster for him… Auburn went 7-11 in SEC play and failed to make the Tourney.

All things considered, the job Steven Pearl has done in Year 1 is absolutely satisfactory at this point, IMO.

I realize winning seasons come with time.

It's easier to buy in with proof of concept. I was patient with Bruce because of what he did at Tennessee. Steven hadn't proved jack.

Being 24 games into his first season and being unanimously projected to be in the Field of 68 would say otherwise.

I get you don’t like losing at home to a projected 4-seed during a coach’s first season, but this team has five wins against the Projected at-large Qualifiers and zero losses outside the projected field. Very few first year coaches have ever been able to boast of a resume like that.

Auburn’s opponents using BrackMatrix’s current projections:

1-seed Michigan: Loss
1-seed Arizona: Loss
2-seed Houston: Loss
3-seed Purdue: Loss
3-seed Florida: WIN
4-seed Vanderbilt: Loss
5-seed Alabama*: Loss*
5-seed St John’s: WIN
5-seed Tennessee: Loss
6-seed Arkansas: WIN
7-seed NC State: WIN
8-seed Texas A&M: Loss
9-seed Georgia: Loss
11-seed Texas: WIN
11-seed Missouri: Loss
16-seed Merrimack: WIN

6-10 against the projected field, 5 of those coming against projected at large qualifiers.

8-0 against all other opponents currently projected outside the field.

Name the first year coaches who had a similar resume.

I am talking about before he was named coach at Auburn weirdo.

How do you know he isnt about to take the same trajectory as Clint Myers replacement?

Steven is doing fine. We aren't great but we will be in the tourney.

I'm just beyond curious to see the roster for next season.

So what’s the problem? Is it Pearl or our roster?

So many Auburn fans talk out both sides of their mouth. They complain about our roster, lack of depth, and lack of a quality big guy which is all true… but then you want to blame it on the guy who became the head coach 40 days out from the start of the season.

If the roster sucks, then what Pearl has accomplished thus far is impressive.

And every coach has the potential of taking a program downhill. That’s not unique to Steven.
