Is Les Miles a top 5 SEC Coach all time?

I think he is, maybe even a top 3.
During his 11+ seasons in the SEC he won 77% of his games, 55% against ranked opponents.
He has a winning record against every SEC opponent except for two while coaching the Tigers (Alabama and Georgia).
He won the West 3 times, the SEC 2 times, and the NC 1 time while also playing for a second NC.
He had a winning record every season, and from what I can gather he never lost an OOC game at home, and only one OOC regular season game against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field. (This could be wrong).
So does he belong in the top 5?

How old are you?
25??
Ever hear of Bear Bryant? Gen Neyland? Johnny Vaught? Steve Spurrier?
Nick Saban and Kirby Smart, I’m sure you’ve heard of. Add in the other 4 and you have your top 6.
No! Les Miles is no where near a top 5 all time coach in the SEC! Lol

Miles’ record against ranked teams is impressive.

Johnny Vaught?
Ah yes, the coach that had to retire before black players were allowed on the Ole Miss football team.
He and Neyland were very impressive before desegregation.

Yeah, you are stupid. I thought there was a chance with your thread topic, but this response really validated it.

If he coached that 2019 team he would've been.

4 OOC losses at LSU, only one in the regular season. None at home.
Largest margin of defeat in those games was 3 points.

Go look at Vaught's coaching records.
It starts to be very average in the early 60's through the end of his tenure once other schools started integration.
Maybe it's a coincidence that he went from dominant to having losing or.500 seasons though.

Miles was a buffoon but I’ll give him this, his teams always played hard and were tough as hell.

No he's not. He was a great coach though and his unwillingness to adapt overshadowed that a lot.
I think the most bizarre thing of Les' tenure was his random fetish for losing to/trying his hardest to lose to Arkansas every year. How he managed to go 5-6 against mostly Saban coached Bama teams yet 6-5 against Arkansas while at LSU is absolutely mind blowing. Even the games he won against Arky were close every time with the exception of 2011.

Maybe top five at LSU but nowhere near top five in the SEC all time

He made one joke at their expense and, not gonna lie, they took it personally.
Don't call them Ar-Kansas.

Here is a quick list of coaches all better than Les Miles:
Bear Bryant
Nick Saban
Urban Meyer
Kirby Smart
Vince Dooley
General Neyland
John Vaught
Pat Dye
Steve Spurrier
Phillip Fulmer
The question is who is better Les Miles, Paul Dietzel, or Gene Stallings

Undefeated Home record vs OOC teams is a feat that not even Saban accomplished.

Nick Saban
No argument. We have head to head comparisons.
quote:
Urban Meyer
Les has a 3-3 record vs Urban. The only thing that kept Miles from winning a second NC to tie Urban's 2 in the SEC is sharing a division with Saban, and the BCS in 2011.
quote:
General Neyland
John Vaught
Again: pre integration. This is a true "Different Era" situation.
quote:
Steve Spurrier
Phillip Fulmer
Same number of NCs. And both have losing records to Miles.
quote:
Pat Dye
Cheater. Missed out on a NC because of being a cheater.
quote:
Kirby Smart
Benefited from an easier division, and therefore path to championships. Worse overall record to Saban (1-5 vs 3-7 - or 17% compared to 30%). Also has a losing record to Ed Orgeron, going winless against Ed. That has to be a knock to his stature.
quote:
Vince Dooley
Outside of the Herschel Walker years, he has mostly mediocre to decent years, with the occasional outlier of 9-10 wins sprinkled in.
quote:
Bear Bryant
I mean he and Saban are 1 and 2. There's no argument to make there.
But you could make an argument for Les over the others, just based on the opponents he faced in what many consider to be the greatest era in SEC football history.
