To me, anyone who finishes in the top 15 of this list, year in year out, will always compete for a playoff spot.

It isn't that nobody wants to talk about it, it's just that things change so quickly from day to day so no sense talking about it much until it is finished. Plus, the transfer portal just sucks and along with NIL, has pretty much ruined college football. Meanwhile, the NCAA sits back and does nothing as fans are caring less and less about what used to be the best sport to follow and watch. College football is biting the hand that feeds it and slowly fan support dwindles. Just my opinion of course.

Surely you realize the impotence and incompetence of the NCAA and the College Presidents.
There is no going back. College sports is collectively a multibillion dollar sports league and the athletes are professional.
The problem is not just NIL but obviously unrestricted free agency. That's why there is a debate about collective bargaining or anti-trust status or protections.
Until then everyone will adjust and accept that they may be rooting for a different roster every year. People have transfer QBs for a one and done deal just like they have done for basketball for many years.

Yeah, I get it. My point is that the fans are losing interest...at least in my opinion. I certainly don't have all the answers, but I don't have anywhere near the interest in the sport that I used to. I could spend an entire day watching games and be perfectly content, now I watch the Bama game and catch some of other games but by in large, I just don't care about it as much.

You are right, fan interest is waning and I wonder if they will make any changes based on that. Part of made college football special was the illusion that the kids cared about our schools, at least in some capacity. Now that everyone a one year mercenary that illusion is completely busted.

Bingo. I'm also losing interest. I still watch the games but, for the first time in my life, I didn't even bother to watch some of our games this year. Found better things to do. It just doesn't mean as much any more.
Winning it all would also not be as much fun. It was fun when you had a team of kids that were developed in your program and were invested in it. Now you can just buy a team of headhunters that have zero loyalty to the university. I hate it.

In this era, player eval, scheme fit, and locker room personality means more than ever, which means the flat out star rankings are devalued because those traits aren't always represented in the online rankings.
In the old era, most elite players in college recruiting were motivated to chase their NFL dream and the money associated with it. Now since these clowns are all paid, you need to be more careful who you hand a bag of cash to. It is important to deduce whether or not a player is motivated to contribute to your team winning and not being a head case.
Canvassing the landscape to sign all the 4/5 stars isn't the cheat code it used to be.

I was with family at the zoo over the Michigan game. Normally I’d tell the fam I’m out but I didn’t put up too much of a fight and just watched a few highlights on my phone, still haven’t even watched on dvr and probably won’t. First Texas game I haven’t watched in its entirety in probably 30+ years
