Highly intelligent 2-3 stars vs IQ of 70 or below 4-5 stars

Which would you rather have?
Indiana has 7 players who were 4 stars. The rest are 2-3 stars. They are well coached because they are smart and coachable.
Now, we have all had the superstar who was not coachable. Lots of talent, no brains. Academic, disciplinary, or straight up criminal issues.
I think Indiana has proven you can take moderately athletic guys who are highly intelligent, and coach them into an elite team. It is incredible to watch these guys. They know their positions. They know their assignments. They are where they need to be, when they need to be there. Very few mistakes.
We have all seen the 5 star O-lineman who jumps early 5 times a game, or the guy that loses his cool once or twice a game for a 15 yard personal foul. Indiana doesn't do that, and that's why they win.

I'm intrigued to find out when you did iq tests on Indiana players.

Rumor is the Rose Bowl maintenance dept is using heavy equipment to try and dig up the Bama DL and LBers.
More news as the situation develops.

Watching this Indiana team makes we wonder what a guy like Pinkel could do in today’s game. This is exactly how he turned Mizzou from a bottom of the barrel dumpster fire into a competitive program. He consistently found raw, coachable 2-3 star kids and turned them into stars (Jeremy Maclin, Chase Daniel, Sean Weatherspoon for quick examples). I wonder what he could’ve done with all this NIL budget that would’ve allowed him to pick and choose far more easily. Our death knell in the Pinkel era was that we simply didn’t have the depth to match the likes of Oklahoma or Texas. But NIL has totally changed that.

Being that you're a Bammer, I can see why reconizing intelligence when you see it is very hard.
I'm pretty sure neither you, not any close relatives have to worry being called out as intelligent.

I had the exact same thoughts watching them play. Some purely athletically gifted kids just don't have it between the ears and it shows with penalties and missed blocks. What good is someone who can push someone 5 yards backwards if you give up 5 or 10 yards because he can't follow a well understood set of rules?

When these new rules came about, I predicted a team like old wisconsin could win an nc.

Alabama supposed to have the 2nd most talented roster? I don’t buy it
No “alpha” receivers. Poor running game. No fearsome pass rushers.
They were ranked 9th in the country and I’d say they are probably 9th best in everything: from talent to coaching. Most teams are worse, but a handful are clearly better

Not a dig at all but unf. I still don't see how Mizzou would compete on NIL against Oklahoma or Texas today to the point it would give them an advantage in some way.

I've thought the same yet somehow someone is saying Bama is winning in recruiting year after year.

A lot of older players who were two and three stars coming out of HS are better than four and five start underclassmen because of physical and mental maturity. There's a big difference in a 22-23 year old and a 19-20 year old. I've got a son playing college baseball and the difference between the players on his team that are 19-20 and the ones that are 22-23 is night and day. I'm certain it is that way in football as well.

They could seldom even push anybody 5 yards backwards because of Indiana's scheming and technique. Their Dline was shooting the gaps at 45° angles that did not allow for pushes backwards. That's coaching.

Taylen Green doesn't seem stupid in interviews... but there is on field IQ and coachability. Green, bless him, was not gifted with either of those two skills.
Hence his tendency to throw into triple coverage, wave the ball around like a maestro conducting an orchestra, and generally make the worst possible decision on the football field.
Granted, Petrino's decision that Green's tremendous gifts more than made up for his silly mistakes probably didn't help matters any.
You need players who want to be coached and coaches that will coach them up.

Ironic statement is ironic.

Yup, not a single close relative, especially my mom's dad.

If you're going to question someone's intelligence, you should first learn how to spell.....and intelligent people don't make stupid comments like several of the ones you've made in this thread.

I don't think it's an IQ issue but age and maturity issue. Take 3-4 years of training and practice and you can get really good at something. Athleticism can only take you so far and good coaching and technique can bridge a gap. As with anything in life the more you do it the better you get at it.
2010 Auburn followed this formula. 20+ seniors lots of good not necessarily NFL talent players but lots of experience. Throw in a superstar on O and Superstar on D and you have a team that doesn't beat itself with a couple of game changers to turn Ls into Ws.
