I know we're all disappointed that we won't be moving forward in the CFP, but I imagine we'll end the year ranked 5th or 6th when all is said and done

Based on this team's grit and fight, I really thought we had a chance to win it all. But for me, the team we saw in the SEC final didn't show up, and we got beat by a team that did show up.

I would say that this was a GOOD season, and we basically lost twice with two field goals separating us from wins. And we won the SEC.

But Kirby has some fixing to do. And thanks to Gunner & Co. for putting up a strong effort this season.

Not such a great ending, but a pretty good season nonetheless. It was a young team that improved over the course of the season. If they can keep it together, and add a few guys through the portal, they should be well-positioned for next year. IF

In many ways it was a copy/paste of 2024, except we ran the ball better this season and didn't throw as many interceptions.

We weren't as dominant but still won the SEC, got a playoff bye and then shite the bed in the Sugar Bowl. Two years in a row.

Strange stuff!

Probably a B or B+. Losing another semi-final game after a bye is a concern. I'm not saying fire anyone but if we miss the playoffs or lose in the 1st round, hope we find ways to adjust. We needed an elite level QB performance to win last night the way our defense was playing and Gunner is good but not elite IMO.

Maybe next year we try and lose a game, so we don't get the bye? lol

Beat every team we played, beat all of our rivals (5 straight over UF, 8 straight over GT, 9 straight over Auburn) and won the SEC; just came up short in the CFP. Tougher schedule than most of the remaining teams in contention. Both sides of the ball were up and down, but they played hard and our QB put it all on the line for us.

Season rating: 9/10 (or A-)

I think vs Tech, he had a bad night.
Last night, I'm not sure if it was him or if our play calling was off.

Gunner can be elite, as we saw in fourth quarter vs Ole Miss in the regular season.

We have won back to back SEC titles. Honestly, we could have been 3-4 going into Jacksonville. UT, Auburn, Ole Miss all could have gone south. You can look at that two ways. The fact that we won those speaks a lot to the coaching staff or the fact we had to come back speaks a lot of the coaching staff.

Given the number of other teams that have lost after the bye, it seems more like a system issue than an us issue. When everything is clicking, have a break may do more harm than good. Or maybe the Fightin' Byes of Open Date U are just more powerful than people give them credit for - after all, they've never ever lost a game.

Good season overall but I feel like in this era of football we are gonna have to have that special guy to get it done.

We honestly didn't have that guy this year. Lots of youngsters and out side of a branch

I don't see how they don't go to 16 teams starting next year. Bye teams are 1-7. I think that's a large enough sample size.

I’m in this camp, the layoff hurt. We looked out of rhythm, slow, out of position, etc. multiple times last night. Didn’t much resemble the team that dismantled Bama. Also, most definitely got outcoached and outplayed, even by Kirby‘s own admission.

Very good based on the 12 team CPO and NIL era. Making 12 teams might be easier than winning the playoffs.

I have to give it an A-

If you take a step back:

New starting QB
A LOT of youth in the defense
OL was being hobbled together throughout the year - including losing our center
Tough schedule

With that we win the SECCG and make it to the playoffs. Didn’t end how we wanted but any year you make it to the playoffs should be an A.

Anything that ends in the quarterfinals can be no higher than a B considering the program standards.

Were it not for a second consecutive SEC title, I would agree with you. And as we all saw, we were in control for most of that game, and Chambliss was in video game mode.

A+ = make the NC game (win or lose)
A = win a playoff game
A- = win the SEC but don't win a playoff game.

That's how I look at it.

Edit- basically what Squatch said.

Eh A- to B+.

Good season overall. Winning the SEC does mean something.

Getting bounced out in our first playoff game two years in the row is a concern though.

Meh? Like B-/C+

Everything about this team was inconsistent. Coaching, qb play, OL, DL, secondary, scoring, etc. We may have had, what, 2 games where we played a solid ball game in all 3 phases for 60 mins?

Problem is both of those complete games were in the last 3 games of the season. They fooled us into thinking it was all coming together at just the right time. But nope, inconsistency in all 3 phases showed right back up last night in the most important game of the season.

This was a forgetful season, at best.

What "standards"? Going by the program's history, it's a title every 40-odd years, and Kirby just gave us an anomaly with his second one.

If you're legitimately expecting to be playing for a national title every year, well....
