to pull an Auburn and claim the 1984 and 1985 national titles. If not for conference title and postseason bans, Florida can make a claim to being the best in those two years. I know in 1984 they were crowned SEC champions but months later had it taken away.

Florida was AP #1 in early November before losing to Georgia. Had they won and won out, they could have stayed at the top.

1984: 9-1-1
1985: 9-1-1

I thought this was a thread railing on us for being total dog shite the past 5 seasons like people have been doing to Auburn and LSU.

Always liked that we never tried to claim any of these.

Why do you have an avatar with the name of the guy who embarrassed us last month?

Did you lose an avatar bet with a Vile or something? Or is it some kind of weird respect thing?

We don't even claim SEC titles that we won, so claiming a bogus natty is not happening. I would be all for it though.

fun SEC fact for the newcomers. In 1985 Florida beat a highly ranked AU squad which propeled them to their FIRST EVER #1 ranking in school history. It lasted about 5 days, as the next game was against #17 UGA and we won 24-3 on the back of 3 long TD runs. It'd be 9 more years before Florida was ranked #1 again.

If we're going to go full Barn and claim natties we didn't win, might as well claim the 1911 season as well.

5-0-1

October 7 The Citadel W 15–3
October 21 at South Carolina T 6–6
October 25 at Clemson W 6–5
November 4 Columbia College W 9–0
November 11 at Stetson W 27–0
November 30 College of Charleston W 21–0

As legitimate as half of Auburn and Bama's "titles"

Chalk it up to 6 baws

Also a fun fact, Florida lost 8 of 10 to Georgia in the 80's but won 9 of 10 in the 90's and 8 of 10 in the 00's.

I believe we have stopped playing since then due to conference expansion.

All for it, most of those pre-WW2 natties are horseshite, like the UGA 1942 title where the coward got out of military service to play football while all the other boys went off to needlessly die for the Soviet Union

How much do you guys discount titles from before the BCS era? I didn't really come into the football world until the late 90s, but seemed nebulous most years before the start of the BCS era.

I have always claimed the 1984 team as National Champions, in fact they were number 1 in the New York Times poll. The 1985 team has a weaker case because after being number 1, they lost to UG.
The 1990 team should claim the SEC Championship because they legitimately won it on the field and because of a past coach and player and one violation reported by a coach that was fired was stripped of the chance to be named Champions,
