I haven't seen anyone comment on what I think was the play that turned the game in Norman.

I think it was Mateer failing to run for the easy 1st down on the drive following Bama's first score. You could see in his eyes that he knew he just made a big mistake. Then, when the punter inexplicably dropped the ball on the next play, Mateer looked completely dejected. The next drive he threw the pick 6 on an absolutely awful decision.
In just a few minutes, he went from having a 1st down in AL territory with a 10 point lead to a tied ballgame.

I take it you haven't caught any random ESPN coverage, because they've been fellating themselves over it.

you mean when Mateer made a very good throw on the run and if his WR made a routine catch it was a TD?

Up till then ,Sooners were in control, then it turned.
At first I thought Mateer should have rum, but later I thought why blame him for trying to make a play he is a play maker and 9 times out of 10 they connect on that pass…..
The punter dropping the ball after being in control of the ball is unbelievable………. Then the next chance the punter gets. He shanks the punt….the the guy that never misses a FG misses 2 FG, and the penalties….
Mateer had a good game…. It was special teams that blew it…

I quit watching them a long time ago. I figure anything worth knowing about will light this board up pretty quick so I just check in here a few times a day.

Alabama had already scored on a 70+ yard drive before that. And then Alabama adjusted defensively. On the play you mention he did a good job of not getting sacked as Alabama started to dial up the blitzes, but Alabama's adjustments had started.
He was tricked on the pick six. Alabama brought a bunch to the line and then bailed out. Mateer read the coverage wrong. The receiver was correct, if the receiver had run the route Mateer was expecting, it probably would have been picked off anyway, which is why the receiver didn't run that route.

1. The punter dropping the ball for no reason.
2. RB dropping the wide open deep ball from Mateer for no reason.
3. Mateer throws pick six right in defender’s chest for no reason.
OK just beat itself.

I honestly hate it that he got hurt when he did.
Seems like he could've really balled out without that injury, but credit to him for gutting it out most of the year.

He should have run, it was a RB he was throwing it too. He was really only that deep because the blitz came and Mateer extended with his legs.
Also, wind played into this game. Oklahoma fans kept talking about it before the game, and for some reason your HC picked the wrong side of the field to defend on the coin toss. In the 1st half, the wind was generally into the face of Alabama. Our punts were much shorter, in the 2nd half Oklahoma had the short punts and Alabama had the long ones.
And that also showed up in the 2nd half with your FGs. With the wind coming in and to the side, it carries the ball more, and the ball got carried away on the 1st kick. And then he was kicking into the wind on the 2nd one, BV should have taken the wind into account.
When the wind was to his back earlier in the game, he hits the 50+ FG cleanly.

You would think that if anyone in the world would account for the wind it would be Oklahoma.

Others have pointed out that it was a 240 lb running back. Not a wide receiver.
Mateer took a calculated risk because even great receivers drop balls.
Running the ball would have extended the drive. There was no risk. It would have been a first down and much more.
I say this realizing full well that if the guy had caught the pass... nobody would be saying that he should have run. But they might still admit that it was the bigger risk.

He should've been buried in the dirt before even getting the opportunity to throw that pass.
Our blitzing Safety had a free shot at him and body checked him instead of tackling him.

It was not one play. Really was not.
Crazy game. 'Bama got hot for two quarters, after Oklahoma owned the first.
The 4th Quarter, honestly, reminded me of Kentucky Football. Oklahoma owned that last ten minutes - and figured out how to get nothing out of it.

If youi have a receiver running wide open down the middle of the field for a sure touchdown, you take that every time.

We missed an easy sack on that play.
Muh what ifs.

So you're saying they just shut it down after that?
These ONE SIMPLE TRICK things are never right.

It was a running back, and the 1st down was guaranteed.

Oklahoma brought in 50 cent because they only played for 2 quarters.

The play that turned it was the penalty on the sideline warning.
