Declined to play Georgia Southern huh? I understand half of your team is currently incarcerated but You knew what was coming.

I hate Auburns guts, but even they are too good to play in a bowl game outside the playoff.

Those bowls are absolutely, completely useless.

Coming from the fan of a team that’s meaningless.

It’s not meaningless to Georgia Southern, the last chance for some to possibly get drafted or looked at by the NFL scouts or maybe even another school to transfer.

There’s no dignity anymore. Finish what you start.

Your team just spent the last 24 hours arguing that Alabama should be admitted anyways despite being crushed in a meaningless game. What's more is that your team has also been arguing to do away with conference championships altogether!

Auburn would be playing in a truly meaningless game that goes nowhere, win or lose.

Welcome to a world where Alabama isn't the only school paying players anymore. Welcome to paid, professional, college football. It's because of teams like Alabama that this is happening. And yet you guys whine and bitch about it every way the wind turns all along the way.

Pathetic.

Let's see, they last played 9 days ago and have not practiced at all during that time.

Portal-bound players would likely opt out as well.

At least seven teams that finished 5-7 have declined a bowl bid. That group includes:

Florida State

Auburn

UCF

Baylor

Kansas

Rutgers

Temple

Hopefully the SEC fines them for it. Them turning down the invitation costs the league television revenue.

“ Teams in the Birmingham Bowl don't get a simple "paycheck," but the bowl distributes significant funds, around $1.37 million per team (based on 2019 data, likely higher now with inflation/growth), primarily to their conferences, which then pay the schools, covering expenses, and adding revenue for athletic departments, not directly to players like salaries. The exact payout fluctuates yearly with sponsorships and TV deals, but it's a substantial boost for the participating universities.”

I kind of agree, but the NFL doesn't need bowl games to know who should be drafted or not. If you're good enough for the league, they'll find you.

Teams that opt out of bowls shouldn't get any revenue sharing from other bowl teams in their conf.

They should be fined as well.

The SEC should have thought about that before their officials bungled two of Auburn’s games, then.

Auburn has significant coaching and staff changes in progress. They weren't expecting a bowl game so too many changes were/are in progress. Major logistic issues to expect a game in the near future.
