Auburn, You Are This Close to a Bowl!

But Rice is ahead if you, damn! Looks like KSU is opting out of a bowl and Auburn is 2nd in line after Rice. Who ranks these things?

I get you are trolling Auburn, but what a lot of people don't realize is that 6 of Auburn's losses were by 7 or fewer points.
Oklahoma
Texas A&M
Missouri
Kentucky
Vanderbilt
Alabama
Of the 6 lost by 7 or fewer points, 3 are probably going to be in the playoffs and one was on the cusp. Then Georgia (#3 in country) only beat Auburn by 10 points. A break here or there, and Auburn would look very different.

Missouri
Kentucky
Vanderbilt
Alabama

More teams should do what k state is doing. No one cares about the non playoff bowl games anyway.

I may be misremembering, but i was thinking Freeze was mainly noted for his offenses. If so, he will have a difficult time getting more employment with what he put on the field offensively while at Auburn.
It's one more reason why it is dangerous to hire an offensive minded coach. Defenses can catch on to an offense and stop it...but it is hard to beat a good defense.

Now that players are making money a bowl thats not a playoff doesnt mean much....used to be like a vacation for an underprivileged kid, now they make tons of money and the fan is the underprivileged kid.

The other teams did what they had to do to win.
When we had more offense against Vanderbilt, they got their offense rolling to win.
Close games evolve differently.
Kentucky played it close to the vest. Stoops probably felt like 10 points could win it.
Mizzou, Oklahoma same.
A&M sort of just kept us in it.
Alabama did not commit fatal mistakes.
Losing close games is losing.
Winning close games is winning.
This is CKS best coaching job.
He’s built a winning culture and finds players and plays that win close games.

I get the thought process, and it is a common (What I consider) misconception. But, I really doubt if teams play a game "just enough to win".
During the game the players may have turned their effort up a bit, or maybe Auburn players lost a bit of their fire...but no coach ever goes into a game thinking, "We will do just enough to win." then start trying harder in the second half when the game is closer than expected.

The fumble call in the Georgia game...if it had gone differently it might have changed the game. (I am not going to argue whether it was called correctly and so forth, as it is over and it is what it is) I'm just saying that Auburn was a tough out for almost everybody they played.

Auburn could play with anyone. Just couldn’t find a way to win, which is what makes teams good.

His problem was he was a scheme coach. He had success in the conference 10 years ago because defenses had not yet figured out his scheme. But, like I said, that was 10 years ago. They have adapted to his scheme while he has not evolved. That’s his weakness. He can’t (or won’t) evolve. The great coaches evolve. They’re not married to one scheme. Nick Saban is a perfect example of a coach who can evolve. That was the key to his success. He looked at the talent he had, what their strengths and weaknesses were, and he adapted his play calling to that.
