Prior to Golding arriving, under Kiffin, Ole Miss had a 23-13 record (63.89%)
The 3 years with Golding, Ole Miss has gone 32-6 (84.21%)
So, in the past month I've learned, prior to Lane's departure, that when Golding came in, our recruiting was a mess. Lane is apparently a very lazy recruiter and Golding has been the main guy running it. I think we need to lock down recruiting in Mississippi, something we have struggled with because Lane refused to build relationships with any HS coaches or players.
The more I look at the numbers, the more I think that Lane is a paper tiger. Hugh Freeze and Ed Orgeron showed that you can land good classes at Ole Miss if the HC tries.

Lane is an offensive guru - no denying that. He's also a "brand". But you are right when it comes to recruiting - Lane has always hated recruiting and it's an absolute fact that Golding was the best recruiter on the staff.
Thinking back about Chambliss, for example, it wasn't Lane that found him - it was an assistant coach that found him and had to convince Lane to bring him to Oxford.
The whole "Luke 2.0" narrative is the laziest, uneducated reaction from certain fans.
I haven't seen what the contract is for Golding, but from what's been said on social media, it's just a one year deal. Lane screwed us by leading Keith on that he was leaning towards staying, and there were simply no "solid" options after Lane intentionally dragged things out to the 11th hour.
It was the correct move by Keith.

Honestly, it is just HJJ. He/she tends to get unhinged on the slightest issues, then turns it into thr end of the world.
I see Golding as a Kirby-lite, and that is not a bad thing. Sometimes the best leaders are the ones that were not looking to be a leader.

If we are being honest about Kirby, he wins strictly on out talenting his opponents. This is why he struggles to ever beat Alabama, because he doesn't out talent Alabama.

This is a Matt Luke type fallacy.
In state recruiting and “locking down” our state isn’t as important as it used to be, especially taking into account NIL, the transfer portal, and the population of the state and relative numbers of elite level recruits. We need to continue to extend our reach outside of Mississippi to find top tier talent, because there is a whole lot more of it out there than there is here.
Does this mean that we ignore our in state talent? No. But it does mean that it is not our primary focus to the exclusion of top tier talent elsewhere. When we bring in top tier talent from elsewhere, and the program continues to improve, we will attract the top tier in state talent.
A good for instance, none of our starting QB’s over the past several years were from Mississippi. They were from out of state.

I wouldn’t say it’s uneducated. The motivation for the hire was the same as for Luke. Keep the roster together, have someone who “cares” about Ole Miss. it’s why you get the “This isn’t your office anymore” leaks.
The difference is in experience. We’ll see if that makes an actual difference for the team. I still can’t shake the feeling that we’re telling people it’s permanent when it really is to project stability in an unstable situation. Pete himself has said he never wanted to be the head guy, so it’s a head scratcher when you could’ve given the interim tag to Joe Judge, unless Joe will end up being at LSU as well.

Absolutely this here. It's simply to weather the storm for now.

Move quickly and get the offensive side of the ball stable that will mitigate a lot of potential fallout. Then just win baby

You can't overstate the importance of winning that first playoff game in our post Kiffin era. We prove right then and there Ole Miss can beat quality opponents without Kiffin. This entire off season narrative hinges on the outcome.

When you frame it up like that… in such make or break finality… you sure don’t give yourself anywhere to go in the case it doesn’t work out.

This the most important thing. Win the first game and all the nonsense of Kiffin goes poof into the air, regardless of what happens game 2.
Round two will set us up against a top 4 seeded team. I honestly hope it is OSU or Indiana, I do not want a round two match up against Georgia or any other SEC team. We will do better against the Big 10 teams.

If I could just see any sort of hiring that'd be great

No, I'm not talking about only recruiting Mississippi. I'm talking about definitely being the destination for the best talent in Mississippi. That's the difference. Luke was shite. I don't want Luke style at all. Like I said, if I see the first thing about "Mississippi Made" or "Blue Collar Team" I'm going to use our missiles.

Give it until Friday when the dust settles. We should see things starting to be finalized by then.

Because once you lock down instate recruiting, you get a consistent influx of talent.
And I didn't say to prioritize it. It should just be a given if we had a head coach give at least 1% effort on that front.

I still feel it's truth though and if I'm being honest, I'm 50/50 on whether or not Pete can or will sustain the success moving forward. Doesn't help my confidence that he was never really mentioned to be the guy until we were out of other options. But with a resume like his, I'm all for giving him a chance to do something special.
Lane got us this point and now the college football world is watching to see how far we can take it from here.
