And his lack of involvement in Alabama's offense?
1 100 yard game all year, and that came against Wisconsin
4 TDs (2 vs Wisconsin)
Sometimes it looks like he's just another guy out there just doing nothing
I have no idea how this guy isn't putting up more production

The talent is there, but a lot of these kids are stuck in social media and money. He’s gotta get back to the grind d and stop painting his nails.

He's got to be 17 & a half by now

He's elite with the ball in his hands, unfortunately, he seems to drop a lot of passes.
That said, he's still a true sophomore. He still has time to figure it out.

Bama fan here, he’s nothing special. That’s not an insult to him, just the truth.

Playing inside has messed up his head. So yeah, he's not mentally a very tough individual. Very talented, got no dog in him.

Wasn’t ready for the spotlight or especially SEC football.
Not advantageous at all to come out of HS at 17 to play football.
Would have been smarter to get held back a year.
He could still be a HS senior.
He’s just not physical enough to play in this league.

Part of it seems to be how Grubb uses him as a slot guy (a lot of people drawing parallels to what Grubb did in Seattle with JSN). Part of it is a ton of drops early. Part of it is I'm not sure he's really become a great route runner, technician, and he's not big so that limits things for him. He also seems to be a bit emotional, not over the top but there is definitely some maturity stuff there that he's working through. On top of that, Lotty Brooks has been great (Auburn game aside) and has forced his way onto the field. I've been a little surprised we haven't tried to force the issue with him on reverses or quick screens more often, but to be frank he's put the ball on the ground a lot the last 2 years so I'm not sure trust is super high there.
All in all, a year to forget for him, but he's also had some huge plays and a couple of big games for us. And he draws attention.

I watched on Saturday thinking he would break out but Horton and Bernard seem to get all or most of the utilization
Good options but just surprising

Horton and Bernard are incredibly reliable and very good at what their roles are. Bernard catches everything, gets tough yards, etc. Horton is a big body that knows how to use it and Ty trusts and looks for him in the red zone. Throw in Cuevas when he was healthy as an outlet option and Ryan just kind of tends to get lost. The other issue is that Ty has stunk throwing the ball down the field the last 5-6 weeks and that is one area where Ryan can be pretty effective - so it's neutralized.
Ryan just kind of hasn't found a niche or rhythm. I don't think Ty DOESN'T trust him, but he certainly trusts and looks for other guys first.

A receiver who can’t catch very well is not very useful.

He’s an average WR right now . Not worth the money . He could be great but needs to work on his skill set and ego

I think Ty Simpson has thrown one catchable deep ball this year and Ryan dropped it .

If he had his talent plus the grit of Germie Bernard, he could be on the greatest receivers ever.

Teams are blitzing the frick outta us and keeping constantly pressure on Ty to prevent longer developing plays from happening.
The few attempts we've had Ty has been off, that's not helping. Probably because it's been awhile since he was comfortable. And RW specially has had noticeable drops, while other receivers are more consistent.
I think if we can get Ty comfortable with more time, he'll start seeing more action.

I think what was brought up about the slot is valid. Those inside routes require a lot more discipline and precision than being outside and running go routes half the time. RW is not comfortable in there and is very timid. His routes suffer as a result. Brooks has shown himself to be more willing to take a hit in there and not nearly as timid. You comments on Bernard and Horton and their reliability are spot on.

Lotte Brooks a 3 star from New Jersey is 10 times better Than RW.
