…you can’t just come out and say you want the DC promoted to HC. You have to put up a facade that looks like a legit coaching search. Throw names out there. The best names in the business. Make the average Auburn fan think there is hope…hope that this time is different.

Then do what you planned to do all along.

Well, we taught them a lesson 3 years ago. And they had a more sophisticated plan this time around.

See you in 3 years…when someone in Durkin’s staff is being promoted to replace him.

I guess this time I’m the one who has leaned my lesson.

Would steel have been as bad as freeze? Not passing any judgment. It’s a legit question.

He would’ve been worse. 9-37 HC record, and he wouldn’t have recruited the roster Freeze did.

I don’t know either. Probably wouldn’t have recruited as well. Probably still be looking for a new coach right now. Probably still be hiring someone already on the staff.

Remember that big speech that Cohen gave about the AU fans deserving more?

Well we got more alright....more of the same.

Is it so absurd to table HC talk and just let Durkin carry the interim tag into next year? If Durkin thinks he can build a team, let him. But for now we could let the dust settle and let the permanent solution come to us. Our AD needs a moratorium.

An interm tag would tank recruiting.

Durkin is a decent DC but our recruiting will inevitably fall. Durkin isn't who the boosters want him to be.

Especially when people like myself decide that we don’t care about wasting our money on OTV if the AD isn’t serious about winning.

We would be better off just paying him 3M a year and putting the rest towards NIL. But you know we will give him a huge buyout like Freeze because that's our niche.

There is a big difference between recruiting falling off and it being non-existent. No top recruit is going to commit or stick with an interim coach for a full season just to see if he happens to stay. We'd basically be saying goodbye to the current class and the following one. NIL money only goes so far (which we were already seeing with recruiting slipping this year).

It'd basically be self inflicted probation.

He may not have been better but he couldn't have been worse. Also, "recruiting the roster" Freeze did only made everything all the more frustrating. I'd have rather just known we were going to to suck then know we were wasting legit talent every single week.

I think Steele and DJ are two different types of people. Steele wanted to get 10 years in the Alabama state system for retirement benefits. Didn't he jump over to bama as DC in 2023 to get his 10th year as a state employee after a year at Miami? Plus I think he was a back stabber.

If you go back and look at DJD record at Maryland not only is it bad his teams got blown out of the fricking water in games. 55-0 66-0 type games.

But leave it up to our stupid arse fanbase if by some miracle some Jordan Hare voodoo happens and he beat the Turds he will be the head coach and our idiot fans will lap it up.

Y’all are mixing up coaching searches (which is easy to do, they do tend to blur together after so many in such a short window of time). Steele was the PTB’s choice when Greene went rogue and hired Harsin, not when we hired Freeze.

Harsin still being a better choice than Steele is a hill I’m willing to die on.

But yeah, the point about us continuing to dick around with forcing assistants on head coaching prospects, and refusing to be at the top of the market, is still the same.

How in any way was Harsin a better hire than Steele?

Records be damned, they both probably would have been bad, but Harsin literally tanked the roster on purpose.

Our AD needs a pink slip and a one way ticket away from Auburn.

Seems every other team looking for a head coach out there didn’t think he could get it done.

Harsin was arrogant and egotistical. He didn't put effort into recruiting top level talent because he thought he was such an exceptional coach that he could get 2 and 3 star players to play like 4 and 5 star players.

Man you are just being negative. Coach Freeze brought in the best recruiting class Auburn has ever seen. Stars and stars and stars. He needed more talent because the pathetic 20th ranked roster cant beat teams like New Mexico State and Vandy and Kentucky and Cal

Coach Freeze become a much better coach with more talent. Talent trumps all.

Stop being so negative Tilco. You are bringing everyone down.
