Tyrann Mathieu has doubts

quote:

Former LSU and New Orleans Saints star Tyrann Mathieu, a beloved Louisiana native who recently retired following a successful 11-year NFL career, called the Tigers’ all-out pursuit of Kiffin into question, citing the sixth-year Rebels coach’s perceived “disloyalty” to a No. 7 Ole Miss squad (10-1, 6-1 SEC) currently in the thick of a College Football Playoff national championship run.

“Do we want the guy that’s kind of showing us his disloyalty? Like, do I really want that guy?” Mathieu said in Tuesday’s episode of his In The Bayou with Tyrann Mathieu podcast. “Because he built the Ole Miss program, that’s all his fingerprints. A couple of years ago they were calling him the ‘Transfer Portal King’ and all that. So he’s created this culture and environment where a lot of guys want to go play for Ole Miss, right. And now it’s like, ‘Oh yeah, I took you to the alter, but I don’t think I want to marry you.’ And I think as a player, if I was a play at Ole Miss, I would somewhat feel some type of way. Because we’re having all this success, everything is going our way, and you want to leave for the girl down the street?

“I know he’s the best candidate, he’s my No. 1 candidate too, but do I want to deal with that?” Mathieu continued. “Ole Miss didn’t have that flair, I think Lane Kiffin brought that flair. Lane Kiffin needed some structure, and I think Ole Miss provided that for him. It seemed like a happy marriage, until the big booty girl showed up on the front porch like, ‘Hey, I’m available.’”

Welp, guess we won’t see the Badger as DB coach under Kiffin.

It’s a fair take, I got no problem with it. You could say the same thing about other coaches who have changed jobs.

If that sort of loyalty was important to LSU, they never should have fired Coach O.

Didn't the players that led to OM's success "leave for the girl down the street" also?

He shouldn't worry or stress over something that just..... isn't happening.

And more LSU and Lane Kiffin posts, its Thanksgiving guys. Why don’t you go spend some time with your families instead of worrying about us. We really do appreciate your concern though.

The game has changed. I don’t think he’s wrong but I also think Lane is in a tough spot because of the way the calendar is setup.

Ole Miss can’t let him coach the playoff, and LSU can’t afford to wait until everything is settled.

College football needs to change the calendar.

I hear you and agree, but it also effects the kids in the portal trying to enroll for spring at a new school.

The Honey Badger isn't wrong.
The lead Ole Miss to the alter analogy is valid and a lucid perspective.
Kiffin should apologize to the Ole Miss fanbase and administration, sign a contract extension and lead his team into the playoffs, otherwise, he will continue to reinforce the disloyal personal exactly as Mathieu describes.

LSU is slipping closer and closer to irrelevancy during the NIL era. They need this.

Only part of the quote that matters.

The rest is just filling time on podcast.

The continued LK saga aside, college football is so much worse now with the decrease in these alphas who have a lifelong, passionate love of heir schools, like TM7 here. This is completely a thing of the past.

Honey Badger gets it.

It's a shame most LSU fans don't.

Times have changed it’s a win now atmosphere so you gotta go with the gunslinger. No time to wait on the rancher type to build up a herd.
