Last I recall (and it may have changed), al.com was controlled by some media shitty-conglomerate, probably the pet project of some housewife, in New Jersey.

IIRC al.com, The Eagle (Dothan) which was bought out by the same group had an outage months ago, serving dozens of 'local news papers and internet presence' all because their windows print server failed.... L M A O.

Getting news and info from them is next to useless. One day this will change, but not in the near future.

Before it went behind the paywall I'd read it when I wanted know a news story, wasn't a everyday reader. Hard to get local news in Ttown since the Tuscaloosa news is pay to read too.

Any media outlet that employs a lowlife POS like Joe Goodman has precisely zero credibility.

Nick Kelley writes really good Bama articles for Al.com. I don't read clickbait hacks like Joe Goodman.

Al.commie is pure leftist trash bleeding into even the sports coverage.

The state deserves better. Putting that crap behind a paywall is hilarious...would love to know how many losers actually pay to read it.

Go to the Auburn board and they'll be complaining about how al.com hates Auburn.

Here's the deal. They're a politically medium to hard left company. It's wrong to say they hate Bama and it's wrong to say they hate Auburn.

They hate everything about the entire state equally except our money. Avoid giving them clicks. Never click an ad and don't subscribe. If there's a story you must read, a Tor browser will get you past the pay wall most of the time.

AL.com is without question more pro Auburn than they are Alabama. They’ve always catered to Auburn fans. They used to employ Phillip Marshall and Kevin Scarbinsky, two very pro Auburn writers, to constantly write pro Auburn and anti Alabama hit pieces. Goodman has always been an Alabama hater. He hates UA for political reasons. His dad is an AU alumnus. I remember back in the day I used to post on their Bama forum. It was constantly being flooded with barn trolls. It got to the point to where I ever went back and very seldom read their articles anymore. Now they want us to pay to read their drivel ? Yeah right. Heck, even Michael Casagrande, who used to be a Bama beat writer, was always making back handed comments about us even when we did something good.

Al.com is a laughable bunch of losers. They have to downsize their headquarters constantly. I think they are ran out of the back of the Clairmont chevron now.

Each side sees it through their own lens.

The fact is they hate all of us.

Phillip never worked for Al.com/The Birmingham News, although he did work for The Huntsville Times which was owned by the same company and for The Birmingham Post-Herald. He also if I’m not mistaken worked for The Tuscaloosa News, Decatur Daily and Montgomery Advertiser.

His daddy, Benny, was sports editor of The Birmingham News. He committed suicide before I got into the trade … several other men in the family including his son/Phillip’s brother killed themselves and a study was actually done of the family to see if there was a genetic link behind it … but everyone I have ever talked to said he was a fine man, a great writer and was very close to Coach Bryant and not just as a reporter covering a subject.

Phillip, I have zero use for. Before he took the cure, he was one of the most disgusting sot drunks you never wanted to be around. Years ago for road games, the sports information directors … both Alabama and Auburn did it … would set up hospitality rooms for the media complete with bar, from Friday afternoon when people usually started arriving to Sunday morning when they generally headed home, and Phillip was usually there drinking from Friday to Sunday except for when he was at the game.

The schools also would take the media out for dinner on Friday night, and I remember one time at a restaurant in Chapel Hill, NC, before Auburn and North Carolina played, Phillip who again had been drinking all afternoon got a few more belts in him and was bellowing at the top of his lungs, “Herschel Walker couldn’t carry Bo Jackson’s jock strap,” until Clyde Bolton of The Birmingham News picked up a butter knife off the table and threatened to cut him unless he shut up. Yes, he would have had trouble cutting Phillip with a butter knife but Clyde was trying to shut him up because he was embarrassing everyone.

I also have zero use for Phillip because he let his Auburn fandom show too many times when even though he was the team’s beat writer it was his job to play it straight instead of rooting. With things like that drunken night in Chapel Hill and with the fact that I was told he was the behind the scenes instigator and ringleader of convincing Sonny Smith to stay at Auburn after announcing that he was going to go back to East Tennessee State after he led the Barn to the Sweet 16 in 1985. Now, I am glad Sonny stayed because he was a good guy and was fun to cover, but if Phillip was directly involved in that he didn’t just cross he obliterated the line and should have been fired.

Scarbinsky I didn’t know well, but I know that his problem is in his heart of hearts he hates college football, he’s 100% basketball and is more of a UAB guy than anything else.

They’re biased as hell. You want to know how I know that ? Alabama currently has a five year winning streak on Auburn. You never hear any media, local or national, talk about it. I lived through the six year losing streak to them in the mid 2000’s. The state media were rubbing our faces in it every day. It was a living hell. I remember getting heckled by middle aged Auburn fans when I was in my first job out of college at 22.

I’m not going to disagree with you, but I will point out that the editorial and coverage and editing decisions that are being made by the sports departments of media outlets in the state of Alabama that regularly cover University of Alabama sports in 2025 … right now, not in the past … are not being made inside the borders of the state of Alabama by residents of the state of Alabama. And that includes The Tuscaloosa News.

Must be the goofy liberals at al.commie downvoting the comments...or just goofy liberals in general.

The stories they choose to pull off the national wire services to post on the site says it all. If there's a former kid actor from a 1970s TV show living in Seattle that says something negative about Trump, al.commie will post the story about it. Comical website.

Thats because it was a big deal for Auburn to dominate Bama. It's kind of expected for Bama to own Auburn so its not necessarily news when they do.

Not true. They are definitely pro AU and anti-Alabama. Not saying they genuinely like AU, it may be simply because AU is an Alabama rival that they pump them up.
