More of an accomplishment, SEC Champion or runner up in the CFP Championship

I’d rather my team take home the SeC hardware than lose in the CFP Championship game.
Figured we could get this debate out of the way now, as some people’s opinion and or view will change when it’s actually time for the CFP Championship game
What say you all for your team….

I’m hanging a banner for being the champion of something well before a runner up.

I’ve been saying this for a while. Most OM fans disagree.
When I’m old I will remember an SEC Championship over anything short of a Natty.

Are you anticipating Alabama and Texas A&M playing in the SEC championship game and Georgia losing in the playoffs?

The playoff has really ruined winning SEC titles. It just kind of feels like every year if you do not make the playoffs then the season was a failure.

Make NC game > SEC champions
SEC champions > NC runner up
SEC champions > NC runner up

Second place is the first loser

That’s the way it looks right now. Other UGA fans happy we get to sit out the SECCG….I for one, want to win the SEC at all cost, but also, not a fan of 5 weeks off before playing again. Too long of a break…yea, injuries happen, but they can happen on the first play of the game in a playoff game too…

Or maybe Alabama and Texas A&M playing for the SECC and both of them losing in the playoffs?

Dumb question. Just ask any Georgia fan which they preferred in 2017. Winning the SEC? Or coming in 2nd to an SEC rival? As an LSU fan, I know the exact feeling...

Playing for the title is way more important in the now, no one who wins natties sets their goal as conference champs, for those programs it’s natty or bust and playing for a natty is better than winning your conference and losing out early in playoffs. Long term is a different story, ten years from now when recruits are visiting it’s nice to see the trophy or banner.

Would you rather play in the world series or win the AL east?

Making it to and winning the SEC (hardest conference) without divisions is a harder accomplishment than making it to the CFP finals IMO.
Seeding and the shitty teams getting auto-bids creates some advantages on top of conference imbalance in terms of depth and SoS.
That said, I'd rather see my team play for a NC than risk injury in what is otherwise a meaningless game, as the top 2 SEC teams are almost always going to be in the CFPs

I’d say it depends on the team. For teams like A&M, who haven’t been, getting to Atlanta and winning an SEC Champ is the primary goal. Making the playoffs is also a goal on the way to the ultimate goal of CFP Champ.
For Georgia, yall have been to Atlanta so many times that I can see where yall would be ok with not making it - as long as you make it to the CFP Champ game.

Losing means nothing, absolutely nothing, so why should winning it mean anything. Team loses and its no big deal, still walk into the playoffs like nothing happened. So winning it should mean the exact same thing. Nothing.

One of us is confused.
First you said that making the NC game is better than winning the SEC.
Then you said that winning the SEC is better than losing the NC game.
In order to lose in the NC game you have to be in the NC game (which would make it better than winning the SEC), but if you lose the game then winning the SEC is better (which contradicts your first statement).

Your take is Interesting and somewhat surprises me.
I assumed that for programs like Alabama and Georgia, an SEC title is almost expected currency. Those two juggernauts have combined for 10 of the last 15 SEC championships. My (non-data based) impression was that the CFP era has shifted the weight off the conference trophy for them.
For a place like Texas A&M under Mike Elko, though? That first SEC championship would be seismic. It’s not just a trophy, it’s validation that our program has finally broken through in the toughest league. Ags have waited a long time to stand on that stage as SEC champions, and getting there in Year 2 of the Elko era would be a great statement for our team to make.
Different stakes, same weekend.
ETA: Doh. I just read AGGIES’ post above. I basically just echoed exactly what he said … in a much more long-winded fashion.

I mean you have some people on this site who think it’s a bigger accomplishment to win a CCG in the NFL (and lose a Super Bowl) than it is to win MVP.

The odds of them losing are certainly higher than them winning. There will be only one team that doesn’t lose, and eleven that will.

I'm not the one that came up with the scenario.
