Why did Texas and Oklahoma follow A&M and Mizzou to the SEC?

Since those programs are so wonderful (gag), and they don’t consider MU and A&M rivals, and Texas had their precious Longwhorn network, and OU is supposedly independent of their brother-lover Texas, why couldn’t they make the Big 12 work after A&M and Mizzou left for the promised land?

I'm sure Mizzou being in the conference is what tipped the scales for OU and texas deciding to come to the SEC.

They talked all kinds of big talk about "upgrading" the conference and about how the SEC was overrated, but they just couldn't make the Big 12 work without us.
Must be humbling for them to realize their dependency on others,

because a&m was a terrible voter in the big12.

Their recruiting was suffering and they were becoming irrelevant

No one does less with more than OU’s brother-lover.

The SEC conference is nothing more than an aggregation of the most passionate fans in the country. That's why Texas/OU joined.
Mizzou was not added due to passionate fanbase, but due to sheer population. Else you would have a 100k stadium.
So consider yourself lucky, as St Louis and Kansas City TV sets got you in this conference. It was a mistake, basically.

Wouldn't really consider joining the conference 12 years after these teams to be "following," but I'll bite:
1. Post-NIL and House Settlement, maximum revenue is crucial for continued success. Big 12 through media rights and viewership was not bringing home the bacon.
2. The quality of opponents in the Big 12 was significantly diluted. OU would run through their conference schedule and then get blown out of the playoff. If you want to win the title, you need experience playing high-quality opponents.
3. Nearly every recruit in the south/midwest wants to play in the SEC. Playing an SEC schedule gives OU a significant recruiting advantage.
4. Game environment substantially diminished the more OU stayed in the Big 12. Hard to get fans fired up to play Iowa State, Kansas, or West Virginia at 11AM.
Ultimately, it is very simple: if you want to beat the best, you gotta play with the best.

Nah, you joined because you realized you and OU shat the bed and your upgraded conference was not, in fact, an upgrade.
