I’ve been in construction for 40+ years. Was on teams that built Yankee stadium all the way to SoFi, and the GC’s make a ton of money by over blowing the cost on stadiums but this shocks m.

How is it that Northwestern is building th le most expensive CFB stadium ever, yet it barely seats more than Katy High School.

35k people is crap. University of South Florida just proposed the same size stadium here in Tampa for less than half of that.

Crazy. Guess it means tuition is going up?

Most traditional stadiums have been built overtime.

Nw has a lot of $$$. Maybe they see what is happening at Vandy and think they can invest in NIL and turn it around.

They got genius Asian alumni who design this shite on a bar room napkin. And Chicago has a ton of wealth. Despite its poor depiction about crime on the nightly news

Yeah the factual crime statistics are just a “poor depiction” too I guess

Chicago is the Paris of the US. A few nice parts around notable landmarks, the rest is a trash arse shithole that smells like BO. And no, not “every major city is like this”. The only thing Chicago has that beats Paris are gun related deaths

In 2005 Yankee stadium was around 1 billion, SOFI was 7 times that.

My point was, 900 million for a 35k seat stadium is a joke.

I’ve been to Chicago quite a few times. Believe Me. There is a ton of money uptown and midtown there. We stayed across the street from Trump Tower. It’s rich as frick

Legacy only seats 12.000. Mesquite's football stadium in Mesquite Tx seats 19,400.

Player facilities, fan experience and I'd bet those nerds figure out the acoustics in that stadium to make 35k feel much louder if they start bringing in talent to get them excited.

Northwestern is like 45 minutes away from the worst parts of Chicago

That’s my point. Chicago proper is massive. It’s like Los Angeles spread over like 30 miles

I think this is the way it's going. Which I would argue is going to drive up ticket prices. The less is more angle seems to be the way of the world now.

I'm not surprised it has a high cost relative to similar projects. The cost to build anything substantial in Chicago is generally 2-3x what it would cost elsewhere - so many entities there with their hands out. Even so, it is still surprising that it would be the most expensive given its smaller scale.

He works for the Big Ten network and the headquarters is there. I would think he’s got a temporary address there at the very least
