Tough call. I’d go Sumrall. I like Durkin but, honestly, he suffers from already being here. It’s hard to get excited about a guy on the staff getting promoted (even though it might be the right move).

Pulling for DJ for sentimental reasons but I’ll get behind Sumrall. Only guy I think that would be totally out on is Jimbo. Can’t stand his everything.

I agree with this. We’re going through the worst stretch in Auburn history since 1950. Anyone associated with it needs to be gone and the reset button hit.

Yes, the defense under Durkin is great, but the whole team doesn’t play complimentary football. The offense had a great game Saturday night, and the defense shite the bed. The problem is that the team doesn’t play expecting to win, and that’s the fault of everyone on the coaching staff.

I agree. And honestly, the last true complimentary Auburn team that immediately jumps out to me was the 04 team. The offense was amazing and the defense was lock down.

Any team after that either had a high octane offense and a shaky at best defense.

But at this point I think you have to flush the system and bring in a young energetic staff. I hate to say that because it will come undoubtedly with growing pains.

Honestly a little surprised to see so many DJ votes. I still think he can do the job but I may feel a little less confident after Vandy.

One thing is that I think the "burn it all down" culture that is now integral to CFB has reached the point that it's toxic and unproductive. Hiring DJ feels like a half step back from that. Firing Harsin and Freeze were the correct things to do, but you've got to get the hire right in the first place.

Truly split on this

Durkin: Roster, continuity, in line with the promotion trend that has seen a lot of the game's best coaches, tough, beloved

Sumrall: Some recent HC experience, universally praised by the media/coaching community, tough, is somewhere on everyone's list (an Auburn rarity)

Cohen stated yesterday, that Sumrall is in the discussion, as well as Durkin.

They are the only two…..

2017 we were good on both sides of the ball. Crazy how many people don't remember that season.

Word is Cohen has been very busy. Already talked to 7 or 8. Plans to talk to 15 and the hire may drag on until after the playoffs.

Which would be past both the early signing period and the only portal window. Talk about pressure to get it right!

Players can't transfer if we wait til after the portal closes to make the hire. Big brain.

So you're saying our players can't transfer during the regular transfer portal that is open to everyone? I assume Auburn players can transfer during the regular portal just like everyone else, and then get another when we make a hire.

That seems too broad.

He may interview 5 people for each of 3 candidates, or 3 people for each of 5 candidates.

If he has not already pulled his top 5 out of the desk drawer, he’s way behind.

I promise you that they aren’t the only two that he’s talking too, and they are the backup plan.

I know, it seems to be constantly changing.

The other side of the portal is us bringing players in. So we'd miss that opportunity, or at least get a late start on speaking to players jumping in from other schools.

All of which would be fine, I think, provided we hired the right guy to lead the program long term.
