Former LSU football coach Brian Kelly rejected two financial settlement offers from the university, and his attorneys have given LSU officials a Monday deadline to confirm in writing that they'll pay him the $54 million he's owed under the terms of his contract.

Kelly, who was fired on Oct. 26, was in the fourth season of a 10-year, $95 million contract.

According to documents obtained by the Baton Rouge Advocate, former LSU athletic director Scott Woodward offered Kelly a lump-sum payment of $25 million on the day he was fired. Woodward also offered to remove the mitigation language in Kelly's contract, which would have reduced the buyout amount if he coached again.

In a Nov. 5 letter to new LSU athletic director Verge Ausberry and Board of Supervisors member John Carmouche, Kelly's attorneys said they want university officials to confirm by 6 p.m. ET Monday that the school intends to "fulfill its contractual obligation" to pay Kelly the "full liquidated damages."

"Absent this written confirmation by that date, Coach Kelly will pursue all available legal remedies," the letter said.

Kelly's attorneys said in the letter that LSU officials previously confirmed that the coach was fired without cause, meaning he would be owed 90% of his remaining compensation.

what leverage does LSU think they have to pay less than what he’s owed in his contract

Ain't no booster even if he's a billionaire paying that shite

If it was me, I might give a million but that's it tops. And I'd tell them to get their shite together before doling out such stupid contracts in the future.

And, he should get it. In spite of the machinations of some, he was not fired for cause.

The only reason to negotiate down would be for a single lump sum vs a series of installments.

LSU signed the contract and should pay the man what was agreed upon.

LSU job just keeps looking more unattractive for potential candidates.

LSU offered to remove the mitigation requirement which is a pretty big move.

Nothing will make the LSU job look more attractive to potential candidates than trying to screw the previous coach out of contractually-obligated payments.

The rumor mill on here, stirred up mostly by LSU fans, says BK has a girl friend and that violates the morality clause of his contract. They were hoping to leverage that fact to reduce the buyout.

I have Zero idea if any of it is true, just repeating what I've read on here.

Yeah, to be honest, as a booster I would be pissed at the whole situation and feel like I’m enabling the problem to continue. You can’t just keep making stupid contractual decisions and expect some boosters to continually bail you out…it just incentivizes the problem if you do.

Kelly's attorneys argued in the letter that if LSU were to fire him for cause, it would have needed to do so in writing before his termination. Kelly would have then been given seven days to respond. “LSU has not asserted at any time that Coach Kelly was terminated for cause, or that any potential justification for such a termination exists,” the letter states

He clearly wasn’t fired for morality reasons. LSU just doesn’t wanna honor their contract

Landry should just go ask Trump to pump up some random stocks so they can create the money out of thin air. He'd probably do it for the low low price of putting his name on Tiger Stadium.
