I was listening to The Downs 2 Business podcast yesterday with Caleb Downs and his brother Josh (WR for the Colts, for those who don’t know). At one point, Josh asked Caleb who he thought was the best receiving duo in college was between his team and 2019 LSU. For Reference

That got me curious about how the numbers actually stack up, so I dug into the 2019 LSU stats and holy shite. Ja’Marr Chase had 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns, while Justin Jefferson posted 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns.

For comparison, I doubled the current stats for the Ohio State guys to project what they’d look like if they play 8 more games and win it all. Here’s what that would be:

Jeremiah: 1,450 yards, 18 TDs
Carnell: 1,422 yards, 14 TDs

That’s over 16 games for OSU versus 15 games for LSU in 2019. But honestly, the number of games almost doesn’t matter because of how much slower Ohio State plays. For example, Joe Burrow threw 527 passes in 2019, while Julian Sayin is on pace for just 436 attempts even with an extra game. Can't imagine what Carnell and Jeremiah's numbers would look like if they had that 2019 LSU tempo.

I'm not ready to say the OSU guys are there yet but TBD

Helps they got Sayin throwing to them also. The right side of the line has been a concern with Tshabola sucking and now Padilla banged up. But Sayin has enough wheels to escape and extend plays

LSU Schedule
Ohio State Schedule

Here's the schedules for both. You have to take that into consideration as well.

It's always hard to make comparisons like that because of style of offense, opponents strengths and weaknesses, games played and son on and so forth. The 2019 LSU team was prolific offensively, though, no doubt...and Ohio State has a much better team than a lot of SEC fans are willing to admit to.

That LSU team also had a pretty mediocre defense and some tougher opponents so they had to keep passing the ball later in games. Ohio State really hasnt needed to use their top receivers too much in the fourth quarter so by the end of the season they'll have way less touches than the LSU guys had.

Even if they have similar stats, it’s not really close unless and until the Ohio St two are almost unanimously considered the two best receivers in the league at the same time.

Yeah I agree and that’s why it’s hard to compare because of what the two LSU guys have turned into in the NFL.

LSU also had Moss with 600 yards and Marshall with 700. Burrow typically thew to 6-10 guys each game.

2019 LSU played 5 top 10 teams in their first 9 games.

2025 OSU has played a total of 2 ranked teams, and will only play maybe 1 more in the regular season.

Who cares if this is an SEC site, it’s a football forum and people want to hear other perspectives and not just from their echo chamber like you do bubble boy.
I swear for people claiming the SEC is so tough a lot of y’all’s fans are soft as shite and whine because someone posted on a website that they don’t own, shite is funny to me.

that team's average margin of victory was 27 points. The only games that fit this statement were Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Clemson, so 5 of their 15 games. They got up big on everyone else early and coasted

This is where we have 8-5 Texas as a top 10 team for 2019 LSU? 9-4 Auburn?

Bama and Florida were both legit.

Even with those 4 there is no 5th

If we are taking preseason rankings OSU already has wins over #1 Texas, top 10 Illinois and #2 PSU. Just count it up
