Thoughts on LSU game

I think this game is being overlooked a bit. Alabama has done something amazing going 5-0 in the SEC but I don't think our last three games are any easier for a variety of reasons. LSU, Oklahoma, and Auburn will be the three best defenses we'll see in the regular season. Since we lack a consistent running game, I suspect all three of these games are going to more heartburn inducing than many think.
Alabama could go 3-0, they should go 2-1. Until Alabama can Establish It, the expectation should be for every game to come down to a few possessions in the 4th quarter. The best way to put a team away is with the run game and we just don't have one to date. That means we're going to be asking Ty Simpson to elevate his play even further since the defensive competition is elevating too.

I hope no one is penciling this in as an automatic win on the team/coaching side or this board. LSU has great players on both sides who would love nothing more than to make a win over 'Bama the lone bright spot of their season.
I would be a little more worried with their wildcard coaching staff, but DeBoer is excellent off the bye week until proven otherwise. I think he'll have his guys ready.

I can’t pull the breakdown stats until weds but to be blunt we can’t overlook anyone because we aren’t dominant enough in any phase of the game to coast through what we have left.
Regardless of their record, the computer thinks AU and LSU are top 25ish teams who’ve underachieved and LSU in particular is a major sleeping giant because their offensive talent hasn’t matched their performance YTD.
We don’t have anything easy in front of us despite what records might look like.

The -6.5 line has me a bit worried.
Your average fan is thinking Bama by 21. I would think public money is heavily on Alabama and I thought it would open at least -7.5.
6.5 seems like a trap bet for Alabama backers, making me feel like it could be closer than I’d have originally thought,

LSU is a bad football team but so is South Carolina. We should handle them semi-easily but I'm honestly more concerned about OU and the barn due in large part to their nightmare fuel defenses.

They’ll blitz a lot, regardless of down and distance. Bama OL will have to play their best game of the year.

It's going to be a struggle for Bama. LSU has a good defense and I expect they are putting in some packages for MVB to through the Bama defense off guard.
Grubb needs to not get to cute with the trick plays and not try to force the run in obvious passing situations.
Bama's run game has pretty much be a non-factor this season. At one time Bama could just straight up wear a defense down and pounding the run right at them. No longer. The lack of a run game will be a factor and I am sure LSU will tee off on Ty all night knowing if they stop him then they will win big.
I see Bama going into the 4th either tied, or a few points behind. But, Ty and passing game find a grove and pull away late in the game to win 31-20...but it will be a tight tight game. Good luck.

LSU quit on BK against A&M. If he were still there I’d be less concerned rather than more concerned.
The other element with them is the QB injuries. My only concern there is if Nuss comes back healthy after the bye or they go to the kid from Mississippi State they could look completely different offensively because much like our offense theirs is completely predicated on throwing vertically to mask issues running the ball and they can’t do it with Nuss at 60% due to the abdominal issue.
Auburn has issues that can’t be fixed offensively this year. But their defense is good enough to shutdown an offense that’s one dimensional and ugly up a game enough to make it close like we saw against USCe.
We have to get more competent running the ball or we need our receivers back healthy because our only real elite strength on offense is Ty hitting the receivers in space YTD.
I don’t think us struggling against USCe was a fluke, I think it was a banged up offense that had lost its fastball due to Ty and numerous receivers being banged up (RW/Horton/Brooks).
Our margin for error this season is razor thin.

The way this season has gone we shouldn’t pencil in any SEC opponent as an automatic win

LSU is definitely a scarier team this week than they would be if Brian Kelly was still there.

We'll know in the first Bama offensive series if we have overlooked LSU. Go back to the USCe game and watch the first half. We overlooked them too and it was obvious in every offensive series. We just happen to have been far enough into the season to make adjustments after the half.
I expect a battle. Pretty much every game remaining will be.

I don't think we overlooked them, per se.
I think we panicked when Horton left the game after already having Brooks in street clothes.
Our WR corps was decimated in that game and it showed. We need another guy to step up in that situation. Rico Scott dropped a couple passes that Horton probably hauls in.

The thing that stood out to me, and I didn't notice until probably the third quarter was how often we went to the line and made little to no line adjustments or play changes. I think we decided to go vanilla, run the play as called. That to me, was an expression of overconfidence. From ULM to Tennessee we had been making constant changes, cost us a few timeouts and more than a little play clock anxiety throughout the season. Somewhere in the third quarter, maybe early fourth of the USCe game we cranked it back up and started having success. I also agree with your points, I just think we clearly demonstrated that we felt like we could beat them straight up.
Looking back at the FSU game, we clearly weren't prepared or motivated. I don't think we had much of our offense installed. We just expected to go out there and dominate. Versus USCe, we had seven games under our belts and could draw from there. That USCe game makes me question if the staff have truly learned. I'm likely wrong. LSU has a great defense, their O line may be suspect but they have the players.

It's always tough to play a talented team with nothing to lose and a lot to prove.
I think this is the loosest LSU will look all year. Kelly is an authoritarian coach and from what I can tell wasn't particularly well liked. LSU is going to come out playing with a lot of emotion and joy and without any baggage. The coaches will likely have some wrinkles not on film that they've been sitting on all year that they'll unleash.
Bama is going to have to be sharp and I fully expect it to be a struggle in the first half until we know what we're actually dealing with and LSU has to get back to their basic stuff.
