“It’s not a great job if you’re not even the best or biggest or most important program in your own state. Like, sorry I’m not sorry. That’s what it is. And, Auburn has a little brother complex. They just do. They’re not Alabama, and it’s not even close. And yet, they want to be Alabama. So, they feel like their expectations, and they operate—from a booster perspective and a program perspective— as if, ‘Well, our expectations are that we’re Alabama.’ But you’re not.”
“I don’t think Auburn is a great job,” Klatt said. “It’s not better than those top three: LSU, Penn State and Florida, in that order. Probably better than Arkansas, probably. And then better than UCLA, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech and Stanford. So, it’s right there. It’s probably the fourth or fifth best job open in the current cycle of the eight open.

Historically it’s a wonder they’ve beaten Alabama as much as they have. It’s not like OU vs Mizzou or Kansas, which are complete shite shows records wise. So they have been doing something right on the plains.

They piled on us for having "unrealistic expectations" after firing Shula...
My how the turntables and such...

Auburn realities:
- little brother school
- not a lot of wealthy alum
- not many sidewalk fans
- Alabama and UGA on schedule, every year
- expects to be top of SEC and fires coaches when only in the middle of the SEC
Auburn will have 2 losses almost every year just from their permanent rival schedule. Why would anyone want to coach a job where you will never make the playoffs and fans think you should be title contenders?

It’s a great job. Coach for 2-3 years, get your buyout and you’re set for life

So, he’s saying virtually no other program in America would be a great job if their campus was located in the state of Alabama. Not sure he thought that through.

It’s basically why Georgia Tech is an afterthought when people look at that job and if it’s a “good job”. The academics and yall being so close keeps a lot of potentially good coaches away

He is saying auburn will never be elite because its not even the program locals will rally around
A non Alabama example would be michigan / michigan state. Michigan State is a pretty solid program historically, like auburn, but there is a very hard limit to what a coach could achieve there

How has this guy not opened the Apple coffers?
I guess being a fig and all, he doesn't understand sports. Or maybe the only team he can root for is the 49ers

Geographically Auburn sort of sits right in the middle of UA, UGa, and UF. You don't necessarily have to get the top 5 players out of each of those regions to build a pretty nice team. Historically Auburn would pluck a handful of top 20 players sprinkle in one or two big recruiting wins in there and build a nice competitive team. NiL has changed the landscape so it's about who can afford the highest payroll. Just not sure Auburn can compete in this landscape in football. School and fanbase size is just too small compared to the much larger state schools.

The series is 51-37, so definitely better for Auburn than one might expect. The series was discontinued from 1908-1947, a period during which Alabama won 266 games and Auburn won 196 games. So the margin would almost certainly be larger if they had played during that time.
Auburn also historically did a great job of winning when Alabama was down. They won 6 of the first 7 when football was in its infancy, 5 in a row in the 50s when we sucked with Ears Whitworth, 4 in a row in the late 80s with Curry, and 6 in a row in the early 2000s with Shula (those streaks included other coaches but were mostly the guys I mentioned). So, kudos to them for striking while the iron was hot (no pun intended).

The very best thing for UAT, the state of Alabama, the entire South and all the U.S would be for UAT to receive the Death Penalty for its football program. Only then will UAT appreciate intellectual research, excellent scholarship and academic integrity. Its indefensible football pursuits prevents UAT from being a real institution of higher learning.

Yeah, it’s completely nonsensical. Sorry for having great tradition and fan support.
I guess he thinks schools in crappy conferences are better jobs because they don’t have good games on the schedule every year.

That's trying to compare apples to aardvarks. If you moved Ohio State into Alabama then it wouldn't be Ohio State because it would no longer be the state school of Ohio. His point is a valid one - Auburn is geographically disadvantaged. Even if we could give Lee County to Georgia (take it, please!) they would still be squeezed between Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, in an area of the country where people probably have more state pride than anywhere else (I'm talking the SEC generally), and they don't have a state attached to their name. They've overachieved historically even without counting their bogus new national championships they just made up. They can be successful, but they have only ever sustained success when either Alabama or Georgia (or both) were floundering, which hasn't happened much and certainly isn't happening right now. It's a difficult job in the best of times and I'd say they're a pretty long way from the best of times at the moment. They won't have trouble finding someone to take the job because they will obviously pay a lot, but they probably won't get their first or maybe even second choice this go-around because the competition for those guys will be fierce.

So going 1-5 in the SEC for the third straight year doesn't mean anything?? or putting up 3 points, thanks to the defense, against the defense of Kentucky in his third year doesn't mean anything?
You and this guy really think Freeze getting fired had to do with Bama?
Man, I can't get over how ridiculous some of you people are... JEEZ...
