He’d probably crush it tbh. Certainly on the trail. And at minimum he gets them to 8-4, which is a step in the right direction. Bring him on for 3 years and if he tops out at 8-4 just fire him. By then you’ll probably have a realistic shot at a real upgrade.

With this cycle being so competitive and there being very few obvious upgrade candidates, this is a sensible move IMO.

It's what many people are saying.

He'll probably fall arse backwards into a situation with good to great OL and DL coaches and a DC...and if he gives up playcalling on O and just be a CEO, he could fall all the way arse backwards into a championship at Auburn... bookending championship trophies while sucking the biggest buyout and going 8-4 at A&M.

Maybe it's my BAS talking.

It will be interesting to so what Jimbo could do with NIL. He was always a great recruiter. I don't know how well his coaching chops are still, so he'll need great Coordinators.

He never learned to be humble and give up O playcalling. And once he lost a decent OL coach and replaced with a mediocre one, the writing was on the wall.
From what I recall, his FSU teams sucked because of bad OL play too, his highly rated QB running for his life.

He can recruit the talent but then see it go wasted. Unless he has changed his ways, give up O playcalling, and focus on hiring good to great trench coaches.

If Auburn hires Jimbo then they have truly given up on football

The search just started. Give it a little more time, let a couple coaches publicly turn them down, then we'll be at the "frick it let's just see what Jimbo can do" part of the process.

He already did the first year they allowed NIL, it might have been the highest rated recruiting class ever. A&M 2022 recruiting class is quite popular here on TRant.

What has Auburn done in the past 5 years to make you think we haven't already?

People who brush this off or think it’s a stupid idea don’t understand how shite works.

There is a better than 50% chance that Jimbo could be successful at Auburn. And I am not trolling.

What is going to make Jimbo successful at Auburn when he collapsed at A&M and FSU and had to be paid tens of millions to go away?

Underrated post. I hope they don't get Jimbo honestly. Could hurt us in recruiting. He would be a solid hire for Auburn.

Jimbo was successful early at A&M. It then fell apart.

Guy always recruited at an elite level and would recruit similarly at Auburn.

It’s a three year project. He’s going to be motivated to get it right. Guy didn’t forget how to coach. He just refused to adapt. That is fixable.

Nothing is worth having to listen to that fast talking, used car salesman.

Yes. Twice. At two premium tier schools.

He did well when A&M went "NIL" before NIL was really allowed. After that he was average.

How does that translate to success at Auburn?

He wasn't motivated at FSU or A&M?

His systems were absolutely antiquated and predictable at A&M. Do you think he's gonna come in running the air raid at Auburn? I don't.

To put a finer point on it: no sitting coach in the SEC is a better recruiter than Jimbo. That includes Kirby. Hell, there’s probably not a sitting coach in the country who’s better in the living room than Jimbo.

That alone puts you far along the path to success. Yes, of course that’s not everything, as Jimbo’s tenure at A&M proves. But if you assume he can correct what made him fail (stubbornness), then the guy can be aces again.

Not true. He recruited top 5-7 classes throughout his tenure at A&M and FSU before that.

Jimbo at Auburn is automatic top 10 classes every year.
