Immediately after the season, one man out, the other man in within a week's time.
Who did we hire? A coach just a few days removed from coaching in the national championship game. A guy who built Washington into a program that competed for natties every year.

By all accounts he's a high quality, high character guy, with a loving wife and kids.

He comes in and recruits lights out. He's 2-0 vs. Kirby Smart, 2-0 vs. Sark, and in his 2nd year he has a top 5 team heading into November.

This is how it's done, folks.

Just try to copy Alabama.

Jury is still out on Deboer. He had a very short run at UW and was coaching players he didn't recruit. Similarly at Bama, he is still coaching Saban recruits. We don't know how he will fare with his own recruits, can he develop a competent QB? Without Saban's recruit at QB what is Bama's record right now? 4-3?

Am I not remembering correctly or were a lot of Bama fans not saying this at the time of the coaching change?

A lot of other poster/fans of other teams were saying this, maybe some Alabama fans, but I do t remember it being a lot.

There may have been some complaining but not enough to rise to the level of saying "the fanbase wasn't happy". Saban left at a time that didn't leave the AD much time or options. I commend Byrne for moving quickly and trying to hire the best coach available, getting him in there and trying to bring some stability.

Am I over the moon for DeBoer? Nope, the jury is still out as far as I'm concerned. He's recovered nicely from the FSU debacle and there's been no more signs of the crappy things we saw from last year. So there's that. But he's still got somethings to improve about aspects of the team he puts on the field but I'll wait and see what year three brings.

They didn't fire the coach and hire a new one within days. Not really comparable to the situation that UF, LSU, Arkansas and probably Auburn will be in this year.

Wait, say what now? Do you know how long Deboer was at Washington?

He may be the next great coach. He may also be doing what everyone said Les Miles was doing..."winning with Saban's players."

Let's see what happens in years 3, 4, and 5 (mainly since he's never stayed anywhere longer than 2 years) before we decide that this is the blueprint for how it should be done.

Makes sense and I am sure complaints from Bama fans would have probably been fueled by Saban leaving to begin with.

Sure, the jury is still out for now. I dislike Urban Meyer, but he followed much the same path as DeBoer - he coached two years at Bowling Green followed by two years at Utah before arriving at Florida. He obviously recruited few of the starters at BG and Utah but he turned Alex Smith into a Heisman winner. At Florida, he came on after Zook was let go; for all of Zook’s failings as a HC (a lot of it bad luck), he was a master recruiter that left Meyer the foundation for the 2006 NC.

Will DeBoer be like the second coming of Meyer? We’ll just have to let it play out as it’s too early to tell, one way or another.

Well... he did play in just as many natty games as BK, and had the same result. But to say he had Washington competing for a natty every year.... frick, that's every decent team does that.

It’s pretty clear thus far that things will only improve as he gets his guys in there

You mean throw an absolute fit, shout nonsense on every radio and TV show, and want to run your coach out of town after losing the season opener?

Yeah you took your backup plan and that’s why you’ll never win anything ever again.

People still say Sabans players when 3 of the best players came from Washington?
