By not firing their coach, Auburn is almost guaranteed to have the best SEC coaching job the next offseason. Bravo barn

I don’t like this new, fire coaches mid season crap. Goodness knows that jobs open after the season too. Maybe 15 D1 schools when it’s all said and done.

The season still has plenty of time left. Let them get clubbed like LSU did last weekend and Auburn probably joins the fray.

That defense is so good it will keep them in games, unless they quit on Hugh, like the Swamprats did on BK.

Freeze makes it this year only because of the high profile openings already but if he starts 0-3 in sec play next year he gets canned on the spot.

Honestly I don’t know why waiting a year would make any difference. Every coach you would want is about to land a new gig this year. Probably wouldn’t want to leave after 1 year on the job. If Auburn is gonna have to take leftovers the just pull the trigger this season and get it over with.

There isn't many quality candidates honestly. If you swing and miss on a guy that is a coordinator or HC at smaller school then you set back your program further. If I were Auburn I would have had a list going already. But think about it there might be 5-6 openings in the sec this year alone. Alot of people are gonna be jockeying for roughly the same type of people. That puts you in a bidding war.
I have no idea what Auburn does but without a blowout home loss to Alabama he skids into next year imo

Taking a G5 coach or coordinator is probably all that will be out there next year. All that would be left is tired old failed coaches like Jimbo. A lot of those may get picked up this season. Auburn might want to jump in this year and fight for some of the better picks.

Financially...probably makes sense...but if I was an auburn fan it would be a depressing off season knowing Freeze was returning in 2026 on a super short leash. Excitement levels would crater.

Exactly. Are there going to be some big program building coaches born between this year and next that aren’t already out there?

Not that I know of. So many coaches are gonna get new homes this season I don’t think a school has a choice but to get into the mix this season if they can. It’s kinda now or never. If they give Hugh another year then he better produce or Auburn will get scraps next season and you never know how that could turn out.

A simple non biased view to me..take a look at the team, then zoom out to 10,000 feet above.

This is a very good team in terms of personnel. Every group is SEC+ worthy...except quarterback..obviously, Freeze has whiffed on QB..in B2B seasons...but honestly..just raw analysis..this is a very good team ..( other than that! ).

Given the landscape, of possibly hiring a new coach, and assistants, and the money involved. I would let Freeze hit the portal one last time. Get the best QB with some experience on the market, you can get. Think a Van Bueren type, or similar. See if the 5star QB whose a frosh now can compete for next year. And have a competition in the spring and fall. Use the savings to invest and keep the roster together.

It's gonna cost close to 28 million to fire him and the assistants. You're gonna lose recruits and players in bunches once you do. With as close as they are, the availability of quality coaches to replace, and a reputation as a place not many want to coach at..I'd sit tight, keep the money in the bank, and go from there.

He's gonna frick around and end up upsetting Bama in Jordan-Hare which will lead to a huge raise and extension only for him to be fired the following season.

Maybe, but they've had some crazy bad breaks / luck and really tough losses, but are still playing really hard.

Auburn doesn't have to fire their coach to find their next coach. I know a coach that is swatting down offers like a female sailor on a submarine. Auburn will fire their coach when they have the next guy locked in.
