Defensive back DQ Smith confirmed Beamer said the plan was to let them score if the Crimson Tide got a first down.
Thoughts?

Low percentage either way. Not quite checkmate but close.

Shane Beamer is a moron

I agree with the logic. It gave SCAR a chance at sending it to OT

He hasn’t watched our FG kicker but having said that their only offensive success was a long pass they hit and the offense turning the ball over deep in our own territory so I don’t know if letting him score with 34 seconds was the best decision.

It didn't work out, but it was the right decision.

He has more confidence in the Tide's kicker than I do.

I think forcing our jittery kicker to make a game winning kick (something he’s never done) on the road in a hostile environment would have been a much wiser decision, given USCe’s offensive woes.
But hindsight is 20/20 and all that.

Option A: let Bama run the time down to nothing & attempt a 20 something yard FG. Bama also had two TOs so they could try to gain more yardage & center the ball.
Option B: Let Bama score if they get first down yardage and have at least a chance on offense to score with no TOs & 40 seconds left.
Neither option was very good. IMO, in the NFL you go with option B & in college you take your chances on possible bobbled hold or the nerves getting to the kicker.

He's a moron, but he's our moron.
Anyways, not really sure what people expect. 6-6 / 7-5 is our ceiling every year, with the occasional spattering of an 8+ win season. We're right where we should be. Dogshit.
Now time to change my NFL team so at least I don't have to follow a loser there.

Not sure what our fanbase expects. Beamer is probably about as good as we can ever do. Would be better with the right coordinators, but nothing ever aligns for us.

A ball carrier choosing to go down is one thing but just letting the carrier score is very anti-football. Dont like the decision.

Best case there is we're going to over time. And we weren't winning in overtime. (see MsSt vs Tx.)

If Alabama has a great kicker, not a bad idea.
But our kicker is shaky. Sellers going 80 yards with 30 seconds and no timeouts is probably worse odds than a missed FG.

dumb. People are going to say it was a genius 1000 IQ move but what do you think has a greater chance of happening:
-SC driving 75 yards for a TD with no timeouts in under minute
-Bama mishandling a snap/missing a FG/SC blocking a FG
I don't think the premise, IN GENERAL, is a bad move at all. In this very particular set of circumstances I do. Letting bama score basically assured SC was going to lose the game without question. At least forcing bama to have to make a kick to win provides SOME question of maybe them not successfully converting.

Not sure how long you have been a Gamecock but we had a recent coach with known as the HBC that had us with double digit wins and finished in the top 10 multiple years.
If you settle for mediocrity don't be surprised when that's what you get.

When was the last time letting a team score worked out? I remember Tennessee tried that against Arkansas last year and failed (or was it 2023?).
