Nobody, and I mean nobody is really talking about the active season. It's all coaching changes. I think that's unfortunate since we wait so long for football to arrive.

Add to that the teams that are in the top 15.

Indiana at #2
Georgia Tech at #8
Vanderbilt at #9
Virginia at #15

Nobody could have predicted this. Yet, the discussion is all about future seasons. I think the parity is hitting some classic blue bloods harder than expected and they don't know how to deal with it.

The traditional "blue bloods" used to be able to stack their rosters with talent, and also had good bag man systems setup. With NIL, these kids are getting paid in the open and it's been a fantastic equalizer.

I think the reason you’re seeing that is because these non-blue blood programs are doing so well. These fanbases are pissed because they see “less deserving” teams doing well and they’re not.

It can’t be because they stacked the deck in their favor for years and other folks finally have a chance to compete. No, it’s the coach’s fault.

Yep - they don't know how to handle it. That, plus 9 conference games moving forward, means schools like LSU / Alabama / etc are going to have down years and their fans won't know what to do.

Even Kentucky and MSU are only a few plays away from being at the top of the conference. This is the most level playing field we've ever had in the SEC.

Our season has been weird for me too. After having ~20 players go to the NFL and an inexperienced QB, I really expected an 8-win ceiling. I haven’t been nervous about any games because I feel like we’re playing with house money.

Back on topic regarding coaching changes, I agree with the above and it’s funny reading the FL/LSU fans talking. Even the talking heads are putting out ESPN articles regurgitating early 2000’s talking points about the different programs. They really put way too much into local talent and locking down recruits for four years when that era has obviously passed them by. Momma doesn’t care how many NCs you’ve won in the past and it’s all about your checks clearing and the prospect of making an NFL roster, something we more than proved is doable at Ole Miss just last year.

My hot take right now: not only do I think Ole Miss isn’t the massive step down from the traditional powerhouses, it might even be a better situation for D1 coaches. As evidenced by their actions, these blue-blood schools are delusional train wrecks while we’re extremely stable with 1/20th the risk of being fired, which increases the QOL tenfold. It’s hard to relax and minimize stress while doing hot yoga knowing you’re on the clock with a complete rebuild and boosters/admins breathing down your neck 24/7. In the current era, if I’m an in-demand coach with a family, then I’d take the Ole Miss job for 30% less pay in a heartbeat. Kiffin’s MMV and I might be competely off base, but that’s how I see it right now.

We are 6-1 in one score games this year. Even with our record we've been playing with house money and living on the edge.

Hopefully we can put SC away early this weekend. At some point if we keep playing close games it'll bite us

It cracks me up when Ole Miss fans point out Kiffin is under contract until 2030 and FL fans go nuclear about how we are wrong because they don’t realize Kiffin has 2 contracts.

The whole Kiffin thing is more interesting in what people say about their own values in arguing what he should do more than anything else to me.

I think great coaches want to win it all. The money is no doubt nice, but it's just a byproduct of winning, not the goal. I can see how once someone has generational wealth, maybe making $15 million vs. $13 million just isn't as relevant as some other things.

I figured out a long time ago that, after a certain point of financial security, how I spend my time is far more valuable to me than maxing out my salary and owning a bunch of shite. I think Schopenhauer was on to something with arguing for the self-defeating nature of desire.

And another thing a lot of Florida fans miss about Lane due to his saying he wanted to be Steve Spurrier is what exactly that mean. Spurrier liked being the first to do something. Regions SEC Stories just posted a long interview with him, and he talks about that a bit. Bear tried to recruit him to Alabama, but he thought going to play at UF was more interesting because no one had really ever done anything great there. It was just more interesting to him and his particular flavor of ego. Following Joe Namath at Alabama might have meant winning the SEC for him, but it would always be just being the next guy to have done it at Alabama. Florida - nobody had done anything there.

So, "wanting to be Spurrier" can mean a lot of things. And Lane says things from time to time that seems to indicate he has a bit of that intrigue in being first as well. Is it a primary motivation? I guess we'll see.

Personally, I hope he stays at Ole Miss. Florida will be fine if they don't land Kiffin but still put some actual work into finding the right person.

Elite coaches are just wired differently, but I've certainly turned down a 10-15% raise to stay at my current job because I know I have a good thing going.

I said something similar on another social media platform today. If Kiffin admires where Spurrier achieved his accolades, he leaves. If Kiffin admires what Spurrier did, he stays and finishes what he started at Ole Miss. If you’re old enough to remember Florida pre-Spurrier, it is somewhat easy to compare the two programs and see similarities.

Yeah, he does get a kick out of stating how it's the first time for X or a first time in a long time to do Y here at Ole Miss. That being said, people always try to read too much into the things that he posts, which he has mentioned as well. He will post his daily inspirations and you have fans from other schools jumping commenting that he's hinting at something. He's likely just posting inspirational things and not trying to hide some deeper meaning.

The thing that people miss is that nobody, and I mean nobody, knows what's going on inside that head of his.

That has really stood out to me too.
Ole Miss fans are just repeating what Kiffin has said publicly he values and fans from other schools who are not as familiar with him project onto him what they believe he should value.

I could not agree with you more. This is lost on a lot of people out there and its primarily youth. As you age the wisdom of not having enough time becomes all too real. And how you spend it and who you spend it with becomes invaluable.

I used to get pissed about taxes for the money that they took, now I get pissed because it's the money I made, giving up my time, that they take. They tax my time.

I am currently working for a smaller company that is local to the area. We may or may not be a company that focuses on duck hunting apparel. Anyway... I was approached about a position working for a very large company a few weeks back. It would have been a significant raise. I looked at my wife and told her, "I never want to deal with the headache of working for a major corporation again." There's just something to be said about a simpler life and working somewhere smaller and trying to help it grow that is far more fulfilling. I get to leave the office every day at 4pm and leave it behind. At a major corporation, I have to watch my email 24x7 and at this point in life, I'm just not willing to do that.

I left corporate life early this year as well. It’s just a terrible environment.

Most people in a corporation work with the fear of being randomly fired haunting them daily. They pay you for 40 hours but expect you to give them 24x7 focus. Then, they will just up and decide on a moment's notice to outsource everything and you're in the unemployment line. Corporate life is awful.

I work for a large corporation but I work full time remote, honestly it’s the only way I ever plan to work anymore. You avoid all the politics, the weird office encounters, and there’s so much freedom. Just got to avoid the shitty remote jobs that are super micromanaged and do stuff like monitor your computer activity or you’ll end up miserable.

My last gig was with a huge corporation and I was fully remote. Yeah, I got left out of the office BS but I also was kind of an afterthought after a while. I had my job humming along so well, to the point where boredom started to set in and I was honestly waiting for them to figure out that they didn't need me anymore. I spent 2 years basically clocking in and working on little projects around the house, but at the same time, I didn't realize how down I was. They finally figured it out, gave me a nice severance and I was able to find my current job within a month. Once I started going back to an office and actually had some face time with real people and had some things to work on, I realized just how very depressed I had gotten.
