Will y'all actually go for a top coach with the buyout, or is something like this a possibility?

Sumrall is legit as hell.

He's going to auburn or UK

If Kiffin leaves this cycle, he would be my top choice at OM. Not sure he would pick us over Auburn or UK, but I would at least make him say no.

How is he related to Pat?

That baw is about to get a big job soon and he will win.

G5 to P4 is a big jump. I don't think LSU will take that risk.
If he was cutting his teeth at a mid-tier SEC/ACC program then it would be much more likely.

Sumrall has some serious upside:
1) He knows New Orleans and Louisiana in general. He won't have to learn the recruiting game on the job. The New Orleans high school coaches are a very tight group and pissing them off is a really bad idea.
2) While he didn't build Tulane, he did correct some real problems at Troy and my Trojan fans were disappointed when he left.
I would take that as a win if he ends up being the guy.

I follow Troy...he had a great 2 seasons there. I think he's a good coach and would be a good hire for a Kentucky or Arkansas.
But with no P4 HC experience...a LSU or Florida would be a big jump...and UF just went down that Sunbelt road (I knowhe'sat Tulane now.)
I do think he's the "break the glass" fallback option for LSU though.

Honestly, he is impressive. I listen to his coaches show driving around in Metairie sometimes.

his pressers and interviews are great.
He will win somewhere big sooner rather than later.

he would be the perfect hire next year for one of these two.
You could not have a better hire.

I honestly don't know how to feel about him. Looks great on paper, but he could also be another Mike Norvell. Or he could be the next big thing. Hires like him are inherently risky, and I don't know if LSU is in a position to take a risk like that

I think he's polished enough for any program and he will be an asset to whoever picks him up.
I think the "big name" splash hires are a dwindling return and those coaches who can actually identify and curate talent - regardless of level, will become the new norm. I think the massive eight digit starting salaries are done, as are the fully funded fully guaranteed contracts.

quote:From the outside looking in, I think it would be a good hire. On top of X’s & O’s, he’s young enough for LSU’s current roster to relate to. He’s savvy enough to woo boosters whose checkbooks he needs. And, Louisiana HS coaches already seem to love him.
