Six teams with a reasonable playoff chance.

From the teams who can still take a loss (or two, looking at you TAMU) down to the teams that must win out (Tennessee and Vandy).

And then there were six.

These six teams still control their own destiny, basically.

November seperates the contenders/pretenders.

Going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out. Oklahoma, although highly unlikely, still can run the table too. That defensive front is good enough to win any Saturday.

TX might control their destiny also but the chances of running the table are close to zero I think.

There's a 100% chance that we will play like complete dogshit in at least one of our three remaining conference games (SC, FL, MSU).

We will certainly be faced with a situation where we need a score on the last possession. Or we need to make a big stop to preserve a win.

We are favored by 10+ in each of those games and it is totally meaningless.

Each of those games will be a complete nail chewing nightmare from beginning to end.

Playing Ohio state was a bit mistake and given we have a better conference no reason to schedule ooc opponents with a pulse until then committee actually respects it.

Would have been much better off beating Purde or Wake Forrest or some other mid to lower tier team certainly other teams benefited from it
And Texas is 7-1.

We technically do control our destiny and I think it's an argument if we lost to candy but go to uga and beat atm we are in the discussion. However 10-2 Texas abosultey gets into the playoff, doesn't matter though we Dont have the O line to win anything

So if you played an even weaker schedule, Texas would have a better record.

I'm speaking objectively if the goal is a natty than what's the benefit of playing at top 3 OOC opponent especially when other teams aren't doing it and are making the playoffs?

Tenn. already has two losses. I wouldn't put them in that group. The others have either have one loss or are undefeated (A & M).

They are currently 14th. If they win out over the next five weeks they will be one of the top 11 teams. Most likely around 7th or 8th.

None. Other conferences don’t have anywhere near the depth. The committee would never claim a 9-3 SEC team is better than a 10-2 B1G team or an 11-1 ACC team even though that will definitely be the case moving forward with 9 conference games.

What the SEC should have done was stay at 8 conference games and mandate 2 out of conference games against the other Power 4 conferences.

Moving to 9 games is really really really going to hurt the SEC teams that finish 3rd through 6th in conference. In 2024, the SEC only had 3 teams make the playoff. All the 9-3 teams were left out and with an extra conference game those same teams would all have more losses scattered in there.

Someone has to lose the SEC Championship game and how much does that go against them? I know it depends on other conferences but you can't get around the other loss part.

UT is 14th. If they win out they're in the playoffs, no question.

They control their own destiny
