Vols: Rift between Vitello & AD White over revenue share?

Perhaps why Vitello is looking at the Giants job
Reports suggest the rift between Danny White and Tony Vitello stems from a major discrepancy in how NCAA revenue-distribution funds were allocated across programs. Lady Vols Basketball received $5 million for 15 scholarship players — about $333K per player — while the Baseball program got $2.2 million for 34 players, or roughly $64K per player.

Baseball is a fun sport but Vitello has to realize he is 4th down the pipeline when it comes to importance at that school

Jay Johnson reportedly not happy with his baseball cut at LSU as well.
At some point, certain schools- LSU, TENN, MSU, Ole Miss, some others need put more resources into baseball.
Women’s basketball sucks to watch and is just propped because it’s politically correct to do so. The sport blows.

Tennessee is probably one of the handful of places where Women's Basketball brings in some revenue.
That'd be like somebody at Nebraska being upset that Volleyball got more than their baseball program.

At Tennessee, Women's Basketball ticket sale revenue is pretty comparable to Baseball revenue. They also are comparable in merchandise sales.

So then why the huge discrepancy?

Good question. Maybe the money was put into recruiting and travel budget instead?

I think I read somewhere where gymnastics is getting $$ at LSU

This is just proof that the era of trying to be competitive in everything is over. Schools are going to have to pick what matters and that will be the differentiator in who is successful in women’s basketball, softball, and baseball

Tennessee makes money on Football, break on men’s basketball to cover expenses for women’s basketball. Women basketball breaks even because the men’s team pays for TBA upkeep. Baseball and Softball lose a little money.
Tony got his salary, his stadium upgrades, his staff, and built the program his way.
If he leaves it’s his choice. He can’t say the Vols were not absolutely doing everything they could to keep him.

I'm not necessarily a fan either way of the guy, but hes good for Tennessee and hes good for college baseball. Every pro rasslin match has to have a villain.

Gonna be a big pay cut for them basketball players when they go pro.

Per backchannels, the main source of his grievance is the fact that all rev share money is pooled together and divided up, where he’d prefer money brought in by baseball to stay with baseball.
He also feels like he’s operating with one hand tied behind his back competing with LSU who spend a larger % on baseball compared to Tennessee at the expense of Men’s basketball (which seems obvious with VOLS making the S16/E8 fairly often while LSU finishes bottom of the conference).
Gonna be interesting watching schools who truly excel at everything ( a la Tennessee) try to navigate revenue sharing while competing with P4 programs who only focus on certain sports.

Yeah, right now LSU does not have institutional comittment to men’s basketball. That may change
