Can a team reject the invitation to play in the SEC Championship?

If Bama loses one more game it’s in our best interest not to play in that game. I wonder if they would consider declining the invitation?

Of course Bama would quit at something like that lol

Better question is if Bama wins out does Bama rest the players.

If you have one loss and get left out, consider it an honor.
If you have two losses with the possibility of three, you are screwed.

I wouldn't have thought a team with Natl Title aspirations would back off a challenge. Maybe you should just go straight to the Title game after the regular season? Or just not finish the regular season at all and just wait for the Title game?

That’s a legitimate question, but before this playoff format teams were knocked out of the championship game for losing their conference championship game so it’s not that much different. It’s tough to make the conference championship game and be left out of the playoffs especially if the team is from the sec.

By this standard you would never fill half of a 12 team playoff. But the reality is we have a 12 team playoff that must be filled. So your argument fails.

No, SEC Championship/tradition > watered down playoffs
Don’t turn your back on that

I’ve never heard a rejection for the CG.
Aren’t they mandatory?

Your definitely not a bama fan. No way Alabama would ever back down from playing a game.

I’ve been on the side of no 9-3 team is making the playoff debate, but if the SEC runner-up is 10-2 going into the SECCG there’s no chance they get left out the playoff. The precedent would be SMU still getting in the playoff last year as the ACC runner-up when they had no business being there. A 3-loss SEC team should’ve been in the playoff instead and SOS is supposed to be a crucial factor in determining playoff eligibility this year

It should be done away with. SEC championship game is a whole different league than the other conference title games. It’s not even the same sport

The sec championship is worthless if a non champ sec team wins the playoffs.
