Can they stop Simpson? Will Ryan Williams play this Saturday or does he have a make up convention to attend.

Good point. Who have they played, and how good is their passing game (national rankings)?

Syracuse - #6 nationally averaging 320.7 passing yards per game and 7.63 yards per attempt. Against Tennessee they had 274 passing yards and averaged 6.9 yards per attempt. Big numbers, but below what they've averaged over the course of the season for both. Steve Angeli (Syracuse's QB) threw for 29 more yards against UT than he did against Clemson. He had a higher completion % vs Clemson, and his QBR was lower against UT than it has been against anyone they've faced. Sure, Clemson isn't the same as they used to be...but Syracuse beat them worse than LSU did.

ETSU (FCS) - Averaging 219 passing yards per game and 7.03 yards per attempt. ETSU had 167 passing yards and averaged 5.4 yards per attempt (both below their season average). Most UT defensive starters were pulled at or before the end of the fist half when UT had a 48-7 point lead.

Georgia - #66 Nationally averaging 229 yards per game and 7.44 yards per attempt. Georgia had 304 yards and 9.5 yards per attempt. Georgia was significantly above their average for the season.

UAB - #16 Nationally, averaging 300 yards per game and 7.66 yards per attempt. UAB had 371 yards passing and averaged 7.1 yards per attempt. Above their average for the season in yardage, but below their average yards per attempt. They threw the ball 52 times. UAB had a season high passing day against UT. They also lost by 32 points. UT was up by 35 at halftime, and pulled the starters. UT scored 56 points, and their last score was a defensive score with 2:37 left in the 3rd quarter. At the end of the first quarter, UAB had 23 total yards of offense. At halftime UAB had 7 points and 136 total yards of offense.

Mississippi State - #89 Nationally, averaging 211 yards per game and 8.12 yards per attempt. MSU had 175 passing yards and averaged 6.0 yards per attempt (both below their season average).

Arkansas - #18 Nationally, averaging 293 yards per game and 8.93 yards per attempt. Arkansas had 256 passing yards and averaged 8.3 yards per attempt (both below their season average).

I do think it is a bad matchup for Tennessee defensively...but I also think that the perception of "schedule weakness" doesn't account for Syracuse or UAB's passing offense because they are viewed as "shite teams". They aren't great teams...but they are very good passing offenses.

Theres a reason for this. Yalls secondary isnt good at all in man coverage and thats all they played against us. If they wouldve just played zone the whole game they wouldve won by 10+ probably. Thisnt isnt even to say to say we bombed with deep shots the whole game deep down the field, although we did do a lot of it. Tons of slants angles outs etc. That defense cannot play man coverage against good teams without getting slashed and dashed. But this is all fine really. The best defenses in CFB the past 5 years are all mostly bend dont break so its likely time to adopt that which yall are doing.

No, but they did get all those passing yards against "shite" teams.

Syracuse against Connecticut and Colgate: 431.5 passing yards per game
Against everyone else: 265.3 passing yards per game

UAB has played 1 P4 opponent (Tennessee), and had fewer yards against Army and Florida Atlantic (also losses).

Arkansas has only played 3 P4 opponents all year; Notre Dame, one of those 3, held them to 207 yards in the air.

If you take out the games against powerhouses UConn (416 yards passing) and Colgate (447 yards passing), Syracuse would be averaging 265.25 yards passing per game, which would put them at #36 nationally.

You can't just rely on stats without also looking at schedules.

Is this ppg or per play? Because per game will always be skewed when UTs offense is always in hurry up

I do think we’re gonna have guys open all day but that was the case for the Mizzou game too. However their pass rush consistently got home and that kept us from ever pulling away (Tennessee’s pass rush might be better)

I think there are two keys to this game that will determine how it goes:

1. Can Alabama shore up the right tackle position? Formby was made to look like a fool by Missouri's speed rushers in passing situations.

2. Can our RBs pick up their pass blocks? Again, Missouri was often successful in getting by or through them to Simpson.

If we can find answers to those two questions, then we will win and win comfortably. If not, all bets are off.

Oh you mean the only other games besides Tennessee where Syracuse had their starting QB before he was lost for the season to an ACL injury in the Clemson game? It’s amazing you try to inject this bullshite without having any actual context either.

So you’re saying we have no idea how good they would be as their starting QB faced an FCS program and UConn?

Sure, that’s about all we know about them.

In fairness, Syracuse's QB went down in the 3rd Q against Clemson, its not the same team anymore that the Vols played. I was bummed when Rickie transferred out, but after seeing him play for Syracuse... good riddance

Vols run D is their biggest issue, everyone runs all over them
