Alabama fans- if you could go back to 2016 and have Saban pass the torch to Kirby and retire, would you have been for that? Alabama wins title in 2017 and 2020 under Saban, but who knows what it would look like if he’d have gotten the job.

they will say no, but I don' think that's them being stubborn or even an indictment on kirby. The absolute irrefutbale FACTS are that bama won a title in '17 and 20.

There is zero way whatsoever to know what would've happened from 2016-present had kirby taken over at that time. 2 guarnateed alreayd in the books titles compared to who knows?

Honestly, I think it'd be foolish for anyone to take that deal.

I mean, do you even remember the genesis of 3rd and Kirby?

Hell no.

I wouldn't have minded Kirby taking over after Saban retired, but that was before he did that clap timeout bullshite. Now I want nothing to do with him.

Specifically in 2016?

No. Alabama won the national title in 2017 and 2020, not to mention the SEC in 2018 and 2021.

Kirby has one win against Alabama, and it took both starting WRs to be out - the same ones that torched him in the SECCG.

Right after Saban actually retired? Maybe, but if Alabama wasn't Kirby's white whale then do we know he wouldn't simply have a different one if he was here?

I read a lot of internet message boards, and I have literally never heard this phrase in my entire life. "3rd and Grantham" is absolutely a recognizeable meme all across the internet, but something tells me you just made the other one up.

I'm sure bama fans weren't hating on kirby when he led top-3 defenses for like 7 straight years

If I could back and change things post Kirby it would be all of the coordinators after Pruitt and Sark.

So trade what, two NCs in the books for Kirby? No way. Stupid question.

I would have to say, no, due to 2nd and 26 being the greatest play in college football history. If it was after 2017 then absolutely.

Great point. I was at that game with my son. Wouldn’t trade that moment.

Kirby would've always wanted to go to Uga, so No. It's also been fun smacking his candy arse around on the field. It's astonishing the psychological hold BAMA has on his Dorthy Hammil bowl-cut psyche. Sports science should do ten episode study on it.

That bullshite he pulled at the barn, jumping onto a table and wagging his tongue at the crowd like a fricking degenerate... yeah, he doesn't do that shite to BAMA because BAMA owns his bitch arse. I'd also never want a BAMA coach doing bush league shite like that either.

Stupid question? I think it’s a very reasonable question. You’d be getting 20+ years of Kirby and you’d think it would have been a fairly seamless transition with Saban overseeing for a while.

No, beating Georgia again and again and again and again on top of the 2 NC’s was amazing. Kirby at UGA helps keep Auburn down as well.. Plus Kirby has a lot of off field drama with his teams.

Also because it was Saban who won those titles. Alabama now gets to say they have the 2 GOAT coaches of college football. And that is incredible…

It's unfathomably dumb. Saban didn't retire in 2016 and added 2 NCs. There's never a guarantee of success. Your hypothetical is full-on special ed.

Smart is a very good coach but that question would be better answered in a few years. Presently he is 1-7 vs Alabama and 0-2 vs DeBoer. It’s entirely possible that DeBoer may prove to be a very good coach too.
