Why is what OU did to Auburn even a penalty?

They say what OU did was "unsportsmanlike".
Every football play involves some kind of deception by both the offense and defense.
Motion, disguised coverages, stunts, pulls, counters, play-action passes, etc.
Isn't deception the whole point of play design?
If so, why should that play be considered "unsportsmanlike" relative to any other play?
Is a play-action pass not designed to deceive the defense into thinking that the ball has been handed to the running back?
If what OU did to deceive Auburn is "unsportsmanlike", then why is a play-action pass not also "unsportsmanlike"?

It’s been done many times over the years. 2023 ole miss did it.
Auburn fans are just trash.

Are you dense? We know it is a penalty if the refs want to call it, i.e., judgement call.
That was not the question.
The question is, why is it a penalty?

They need to call it a penalty for people to not do it.
I have two issues with this...
Issue #1- What "constitutes" deception in this situation and what doesn't?
Secondly... If the player is "going off the field"... why weren't the officials over the ball.
My thinking is they should make a rule that you have to RUN off the field if you are being subsituted. No walking or trotting. And that goes for the defense after the offense subs in.

The WR walked to his spot. They need to update the rule you must jog at minimum when on the field. There’s zero way to prove OU was trying to deceive just by saying a WR walked.

Because there is a rule that prohibits it.

It’s because of all the substitution rules. Specifically with race-car offenses. You have to be obvious with your substitutions, so the ball can be properly spotted and clock ran. The offense already has an advantage with no substitutions and defense being able to run subs in and off. You think it’s right to now take substitution.
Doesn’t matter that ole miss got away with it; that was missed as well; just no one caught it.
I’d be fine with a rule saying no one can be lined up outside the numbers, even though I’d admit would be extreme.

Walking or jogging has nothing to do with the rule or the SEC's statement.
But yeah sure, I'd be okay with requiring players being subbed in or out to jog vs. walk.

Your own coach flicked off Auburn after the play. That's how much poison was in the play. Maybe let another fanbase decide if that play "is just football" or not.

b/c we dont want the game to turn into a substitution trickery gimmick play every down.
Now.....in 2025 when the official spots the ball and doesnt hover over it you should start accounting for the people that were in on the previous play if youre a defender.
While I think the WR was in the wrong I believe the official should've thrown the flag once the players were set.

The fact you need this explained to you is something else.
Are ou fans capable of rational and logical thought?

He never left the field, he lined up and checked with the ref before the play started. The only questionable part of the whole play was he walked.

That is the problem, there was no huddle, he just walked out there, he set up well before the snap and nodded at the ref, who acknowledged him. Here is the thing, if he had run out there and set up they would have said the same damned thing. The bottom line is that Auburn f*cked up and lost him. This is a judgement call, and the SEC was absolutely wrong in issuing anything about it. Are they going to now issue a statement every time someone scores when there is not a holding penalty called?
