This is an interesting question to me simply because of my own experience living in Gainesville, working at North Florida Regional Hospital's nursing center.... and being a student at UF

I lived in Gainesville in the 1980s when UF decided to quit playing Miami on the reg.

I would say that back then for UF students it was for sure FSU. But for the old guys at the nursing home... it was Miami by far. They still thought of FSU as a "girl's school".

The year that UF quit playing Miami ('88)... they had played every year but one since 1938... and Florida held a 25-23 lead in the series.

FSU had won like five in a row but Florida held a 22-7 lead in the series that dated back only to 1958.

What was funny is that I left UF and went to Tallahassee and spent a year there...I worked in another elderly care center... A lot of the old men in there were Gator fans... they had grown up in Tally...when FSU was a "girl's school". And they were still die hard Gator fans.

It’s FSU by far. Mainly because they hate us because they ain’t us. FSU students could never get into UF. They know it and we know it. Gators want Semenholes to lose in every sport. We don’t follow Miami in any sport but football. Miami fans are annoying like the northerners they are but they have been insignificant a few years since we stopped playing them.
