We have zero WRs in the top 100 currently in ypg

Our scoring offense ranks 41st

Passing offense 110th

Hugh appears to be content just grinding it out in the ground game.

I haven't seen anything from Jackson Arnold to indicate he can't throw it down field so I'm not sure why the game calling is so vanilla.

Sure we are 3-0 but why not build up Arnold and the WR room in these practice games.

At first I thought it was how the defenses were playing us with 2 safeties back until I watched Tennessee torch UGA playing the same 2 high safeties.

I know that WR room has to be getting frustrated.

Seems wild to me to wait until a top 10 opponent to test out your passing attack

It really is baffeling how incapable we seem to be to have a true passing game that looks like it can dictate what happens instead of being reacitonary. I honestly can't remember the last time we really did. I don't know what it is about Auburn teams. We just never seem to have guys running with space. Everything is always a tight, contested catch. I wish I could say it was just a Hugh issue, but unfortunately its been this way for a long time.

those were the same excuses for Thorne. and Nix. and..... "well, the receivers just aren't getting open" wash. rinse .repeat.

it is baffling to say the least.

Perfectly summed up. I said it in the "in-game thread" but our passing game seams to the sidelines or left and right instead of vertical.

Deep posts, streaks, seam routes, slants, drags. all seemingly nonexistent

Our routes are to the sticks. corner routes quick hitches and DBs always draped over our guys

I would not be concerned at this point. Its apparent that Hugh is holding back since our competition is low.

I fully expect him to open up the full offense this weekend in Norman.

Yep, and it's seemingly been this way for over a decade. I have never understood it. Especially that lack of drag routes. We run a decent amount of deep posts, Jackson just hasn't thrown them when he should have or in the case of the ball state game, didn't have the time for them to come open early on. Hell, even the use of bubble screens are almost non-existent. It has definitely been frustrating to watch, regardless of who has been out coach, the passing games that are consistently successful across the country doing a lot of the same things, yet for some reason we seem incapable of doing or even attempting those same things.

I will say I've seen some really good potential this year on offense. With our running game, the RPO game should be solid. Don't know why we really didn't run any of it against USA, but we really didn't need to either. I think first half we were 4/5 on drives, scoring TD's on all of them. That is really solid. Second half we were 1/3 on drives, scoring one field goal and one drive being the final drive to run out the clock.

Oklahoma will be the litmus test. There really hasn’t been a need to throw it down field. If you can win a game being vanilla, do it. It makes opposing defense prep much more difficult. I’m not saying this is what is happening, but from a strategic standpoint it holds water.

The only game out of our 3 wins that was every in question, was the Baylor game. Baylor dared us to run, played pass defense. The other two? Why show your full offense on cupcakes with OK, TAM, and UGA staring you down?

You do realize that coaches are paid to win, right?

If that’s what’s happening, great. We’ll found out next week.

Georgia beat Austin Peay 28-6 with a vanilla offense before unloading the clip @ Tennessee last weekend.

No doubt.

I'm not nearly as concerned about the offense as I am the defense. If the lesser-thans can put up numbers, then I shudder at what a team with equal talent will be able to do. Secondary play has been less than stellar.

t
Absolutely... fully understand winning first but I also don't understand not building some confidence in your qb and wrs and putting something else on tape besides the run game.

We're not going to run it on Oklahoma like we did the last 2 cupcakes. So "let's hope" our passing game is as good as it's supposed to be.

Seems like a dumn take to me.

Defense is good enough IMO. Not sure we can out score TAMU, Oklahoma, etc.

We haven’t needed to open our passing game up at all. We have been able to run all over and gash any team we have played to this point.

Do we have a passing game to open up? That is the real question.

I think we had 13 rushing touchdowns last year and we already have 10 through this year. Instead of seeing a negative I give Freeze credit for adapting a bit and making sure we score in the redzone instead of being consumed by needing passing numbers.

I did give him credit for the Baylor win, I felt like he'd have lost that game in previous years by trying to force the pass instead of running the ball.

I do worry that we could be one-dimensional on offense. I hope I'm wrong & I hope we've just not needed the pass yet.

This and the lack of turnovers on offense have dramatically turned around this year. 100% in the red zone so far.

And those are two big reasons we lost games last season.
