The biggest question mark and wildcard for me is Ole Miss.

Extending even from last year when Ole Miss was wildly inconsistent, from flashes of brilliance to laying eggs.

This year this is the one team I still cannot peg.

What do the Ole Miss faithful *really* think right now?

Better than a lot of people think. They look at Simmons throwing 2 interceptions in the first quarter of each game and automatically think “oh well they must suck!” Then they miss Simmons carving up the defense in the 2nd 3rd and 4th quarters.

Defense is solid, offensive line dramatically improved in the UK game and the running game is solid with Lacy getting 100 yards in the fist two games. If Simmons cuts down on the early interceptions, we will contend for a playoff spot.

Edit: sorry I forgot some people don’t like honest assessments.

And if he doesn’t y’all will be 3-5 in conference. Yall aren’t getting into the playoff with 5 losses. Bro has 4 INTs in two games against nobodies. What do you think he’s going to do against elite coordinators and defenses?

Again, leave it to an Ole Miss fan to not know what winning football looks like.

LSU fans keep trying to pretend like Ole Miss is a nobody football program, but they've been a top 10-15 team under Kiffin since his first year which was the covid season, and I see no reason to doubt them reaching that mark this season. They have flaws like anyone else, but they're a tough team.

Throwing 4 picks in 2 games against FCS schools isn’t helping anything. You think he will all of a sudden figure it out once he plays good teams with elite athletes on defense? For your history lesson being a top 15 school the last few years is great if you have hardware to show for it. They must have at least an SEC title game appearance to show for it right?

There's only 1 team that can win the SEC in any given season just like there's only 1 national champion. If this is your only criteria for defining a good season or a good team then you are being very myopic.

Not great. Defense will be good. Simmons is playing like a 1st year starter and mistakes will happen, but he’s not seeing the entire field. Luckily the running game looks to be much improved. OL is average. I can see anywhere from 7-5 to 9-3. This isn’t going to be a playoff caliber team. Next year will be though

He carved up Georgia State. He was wildly inconsistent and inaccurate against Kentucky. He will get better, but he’s literally a half of the field qb right now. All the arm talent in the world, but a kid that should be a true freshman right now is what we’ve seen thus far. I’m happy for him that he graduated 2 years earlier and is already a grad at Ole Miss, but he’s also 19 years old ins his first season. Pump the breaks some

Simmons has a ways to go. And right now we don’t know the severity of his injury. But thanks for everyone leaning on a first year starter. Our backup can run. We haven’t seen him throw much. But we know we aren’t near as good as LSU or Texas. You guys are awesome. We should be an easy game for LSU. Backups can whip us.

Good analogy. He just isn’t there yet. But I do like Chambliss. I’d rather have him out there right now. Not as tall and new to the system but the kid can throw and run. But we have only 2 returning starters. Not a playoff team.

Ole Miss isn’t a playoff team.

HJJ is correct in his assessment. We have some flaws but they got better even in the game, so we could turn out to be a pretty damn good team.

Are we world beaters right now? No
Do we have potential to be? It's definitely trending in the right direction.

We have Arkansas, Tulane, and LSU. We should be favored in all of those.

I think we’re an 8-4/9-3 team. However, based on what I’ve seen so far. If we beat Arkie Saturday, and that’s a big if bc it’s always wild and unpredictable, then we need to scratch out one b/w LSU/UGA/OK and we could be this years Tennessee , a record better than what we truly are and find ourselves in the playoffs.

We should wipe the floor with Arkansas, if we don't spot them a lot of points in the beginning.

Might challenge Nuss for INT king this year.

Ole Miss, in fact, has not played a single FCS team this season.

Simmons is talented but isn't fully matured yet. Can make every throw but can get confused and throw into coverage.

O line is good at tackle but struggles guard to guard. Hopefully that can improve with game time.

Running game is much better than last year. Lacy is a legit SEC back that we did not have last year.

D line is solid. Not as elite as last year but enough talent to end games.

LB's are solid.

DBs are average to a little above average but need more game time to gel.

Overall our scheule lines up well. Our games step up in difficulty the first 5 weeks.

Ga State - Blow out
@ UK - 1st road start for a young QB
Ark - improving team that needs a statement win
Tulane - solid veteran team
LSU - If we are 4-0 going into that game it is one of the games of the week and a win in that game allows us to start thinking playoff.

I generally thing this is a 9-3/8-4 type team but if Simmons and O line can turn a corner this may be a playoff team.
